We are have some problems with the structure of the URL when the function "automatic redirect of a 404 page" is turned on.

We see that the function adds the categories in the existing URLs and removes .html.
Our URL's are generated by the menu-items and are short. We would like to keep this! Also no removal of .html.

How do we suppress the additions in the URL's. Where can we control this?

We are using K2 for our content-items.

www.website.com/aboutus.html

Should not be replaced by

www.website.com/about/company/aboutus

Hi

This has nothing to do with the redirecting of 404.

The autoredirect function receives a bad, non-existing URL and search for one that looks similar in the URL database.

If the most similar URL selected is, for instance, /about/company/aboutus it means this URL is in the URL manager.

So your problem is simply that the URLs are not correct.

1 - html vs no html at the end. This is a basic setting in both sh404SEF and Joomla SEF. Have you read and applied the Getting started guide, especially this page?
I guess not if you have URL with and without html at the end.

2 -
Our URL's are generated by the menu-items and are short.
sh404SEF normally doesn't use menu items to build URLs, but instead content structure, which is how it's supposed to be for best SEO results.

How did you create those URLs (the short ones, based on menu) ? did you hard code them in the menus, as "External URLs?"

3 - We can't talk in general terms. We'll need the site URL and superadmin credentials to go much further.

Rgds
