Questions about sh404SEF

sh404SEF has been discontinued on August 17, 2023.

As it is a Joomla 3-only extension, we provide an upgrade path to Joomla 4 as follows:

4SEF produces SEF URLs identical to sh404SEF in most cases. It can import custom URLs from sh404SEF. It works on Joomla 3 & 4.
4SEO is the all-in-one SEO extension for Joomla with much more features than sh404SEF. It can import meta data and redirects from sh404SEF. It works on Joomla 3 & 4.

How long will sh404SEF be supported?

sh404SEF will be supported as long as Joomla 3 is supported by the Joomla project for all its users. Joomla 3 will be supported by the Joomla project for 2 years after the release of Joomla 4, which means August 17, 2023.

From that date, no further update and no support for sh404SEF will be provided. We may provide updates in case security issues are discovered, which is quite unlikely after all these years.

I use another SEF extension, can I import data into sh404SEF?

Yes! We have an Importer plugin that can import URLs, meta data and redirects from MijoSEF and JoomSEF. The importer is a separate Joomla! plugin, you can find it on the download page.

Note that this may provide you with an upgrade path to Joomla 4, as you can move from MijoSEF or JoomSEF to sh404SEF, and then to 4SEF, which works on both Joomla 3 and 4. More details on our Using JoomSEF or MijoSEF on Joomla 3? how to update to Joomla 4 today blog post.
