 Hello there,

I have just purchased your component and immediately came across some problems. You might be able to help me out on these.

1. When I installed the component and it was successful the following message welcomed me when I clicked on sh404sef in the components in the Administrator :

sh404SEF system plugin has been disabled or has failed initializing. Please enable it again to use sh404SEF, with Joomla! plugin manager

I checked, the system plugin was enabled. No worries I thought, I disabled and enabled the plugin and the component at backend started to work.

But: When I clicked on the frontend of site, all the links that were to show Joomlaquiz urls, were gone giving me this error message (with a full blank page):

"An error just happened: Component Not Found (http://www.xxxx.com)
and there was another one displaying this message (error page document not found)."

When I uninstalled the component, everything worked normal. When I reinstalled sh404sef, the same problems occured. I'm not an advanced user of this component, and I haven't gone through a lot of forum posts to find out.
Could you please give me a hend on this? It would be much appreciated.
Regards
Aron

Hi

This message on the front end
"An error just happened: Component Not Found (http://www.xxxx.com) and there was another one displaying this message (error page document not found)."
means that you're viewing a 404 page which is normally displayed by sh404SEF.

THe fact that it fails to display is usually caused by the user renaming or unpublishing either the "sh40SEF custom content" category or the "__404__" article.

Why you actually get a 404 error is another question, and I would require one sample of such URL (complete with domain) to go further.

So here I am with the details:

I checked the articles, there is no such article as sh404sef existing. So it is not enabled or disabled, it does not exist.

Second: Here is the url for the main page: http://www.xxxx.com

At the moment the sh404sef component is not uninstalled, the url optimalization is disabled but there are a lot of 404 pages. Click on the menu and submenu items, most probably the links with the joomlaquiz quizzes have problems.
Thank you for your help

I switched on url optimalization becase when testing the problem, the links started to work :) Hell don't know why :) No the sh404sef is enabled and you should see the "component not found" error too

Hi

If the articles and category are not present, then the installation was broken and it's unlikely the extension will work properly in the future.

I would advise the following:

- go to Joomla configuration and set "Error reporting" to "Maximum"
- install again sh404SEF and record exactly and in full any error displayed
- check if "sh404SEF custom content" and __404__ articles are now installed

Hi again

and of course, if you're using the Joomla Cache system plugin, the cache needs to be cleared before links start to be updated.

Hi,

Here is what I could do:

1. I double checked that sg404sef custom content category existed plus the article __404__. Neighter of the two did.

2. I tried to create with exactly these names but I couldn't. The system said that there were another alias in this name. Hmm.

3. I opened the database and manually deleted everything, all records and tables that had 404 in its name, plus I found the category in the com_category database. I deleted this one as well.

4. I also found the article in the databad __404__, but strangely enough, it was in the database but it did not show up in joomla backend. Seems to me a bug to me.

5. Reinstalled the component and this time, the installation created the category and the article without a problem.

Now clicking on links does not give back this component not found blank page error, but it shows the __404__ page.

Question: How come that joomla works absolutely find, links are ok and work when sh404sef is disabled and immediately, it gives me 404 error when I switch on the sh404sef component.

I follow your advice, and turn on the error reporting feature. Then what?

Ahhhhhh

But what did you do all that instead if following my advice??????
Why do you ask for support if you don't do what we say?

4. I also found the article in the databad __404__, but strangely enough, it was in the database but it did not show up in joomla backend. Seems to me a bug to me.
Not to me. sh404SEF has no bearing on what Joomla displays, I think the first installation was simply botched. This seems confirmed by the fact second installation worked fine.

Question: How come that joomla works absolutely find, links are ok and work when sh404sef is disabled and immediately, it gives me 404 error when I switch on the sh404sef component.

You mean that you have Joomla SEF URL working (and I mean without /index.php/ in them) and not sh404SEF??

Please do not take any other action like you did before and simply answer my questions.
If there's a sign of a problem, I'll connect to the backend as superadmin and will check configuration.
Also, have you read the Getting started guide? Have you setup a .htaccess file?

Hello,

Sorry for deviating the plan. I thought that the missing component and the missing __404__ article could be the reason. Sorry again, your help is appreciated and follow your advice.

So first thing first, as you suggested I went to Joomla administration and in the global setting I changed the error reporting to maximum. Bang. Immediatly after hitting the save button it gave me the error: ERR_CONTENT_DECODING_FAILED with a white page. Nothing works.
Checking the website http://www.xxxx.com frontend resulted the same. ERR_CONTENT_DECODING_FAILED

At the moment I cannot gain access to my administration and the website collapsed and I don't have a chance to reset the error reporting option.

What I meant about sh404sef off was that the component was not uninstalled but I disabled the "Enable URL optimization" in sh404sef.
I configured the .htaccess file, I have it in the root and switched on mod_rewrite.
I checked the configuration steps but I thought what I did was enough to make it work properly.

Now I'm awaiting your reply what I can do about his situation.

Hi

What's happening most likely is that you do have some PHP errors happening on your site, but as you probably also have gzipping on, this breaks the document encoding, hence the "ERR_CONTENT_DECODING_FAILED " error.

You should open your configuration.php file (with FTP) and change
public $gzip = '1';

to
public $gzip = '0';

That should let you get back some display and see what the PHP errors are.

Hi

Question: How come that joomla works absolutely find, links are ok and work when sh404sef is disabled and immediately, it gives me 404 error when I switch on the sh404sef component.
That doesn't happen for me. I can navigate through pages. The only thing not working is the joomlaquizz component

It has URLs like "http://www.xxxx.com/component/com_joomlaquiz/Itemid,616/cat_id,44/view,qcategory/" which should be working but don't for some reason linked to Jooomlaquiz itself.
This kind of URLs happen when an extension don't have a router.php file, so I would suggest that yo uselect "Use Joomla router" for the joomlaquiz component under the "By components" tab of sh404SEF configuration.

Hi,

I did as you instructed and it seems that the joomlaquiz files are now OK. However, it seems that whenever I click on a joomla category on the frontpage (which show the number of articles, the page reloads and the required link does not appear. Does it have anything to do with the changes that I have made?

Hi

I don't see any catgeory links on the frontpage, with number of items. I see 3 boxes, with each one button marked "TOVABB".
The left box button has a link to http://www.xxxx.com/online-angol/online-angol-bemutatkozas.html
The right box butto has a link to http://www.xxxx.com/online-angol/hogyan-mukodik.html
The middle box button has a link to the home page : http://www.xxxx.com/

These 3 links seem to work ok.

Hi,

Sorry I wasn't precise giving you the exact url.

So there is no problem with the first three boxes, they work fine.

Look at this page: http://www.xxxx.com/table/angol-nyelvvizsgak/

This shows two categories with some articles in them. They don't work.
Or like this:

http://www.xxxx.com/table/keszsegek/

They all refer to a list of categories but I can't enter the categories to see the artices.

Hi

Well, this looks normal, both links are the same:

http://www.xxxx.com/table/angol-nyelvvizsgak/

Are those regular content articles? have you changed some sh404SEF default settings of sh404SEF?

Hi,

All the articles are regular content articles in the categories. I have not changed any default settings, I haven't got around to finetuneing the component (but I would like to later)

For me I don't know why this looks pretty normal that clicking on the category, I cannot see the articles. Sorry, but I might not know something I should, but I don't see the point.

Hi

Well, its not about clicking. Have you looked at the links? (by hovering your mouse over them)?
Those 2 links point to themselves, to the same page, so it's normal you stay on the same page.

Could you please provide us with superadmin credentials to your website. You can create a temporary account, and delete it afterwards, but it must have superuser level.

Thanks and regards

Hi

OK, I get it now. Here what's happening:

1 - There's no article in that category, Angol nyelvvizsgák, which is why there's no content displayed
2 - At the bottom of the page, there are 2 links to the 2 sub-categories: ITK-Origó nyelvvizsga and TELC nyelvvizsga.

The links to these sub-categories are wrong, because the default sh404SEF settings for categories links has been changed from "Last 2" tp "Top one only":

So if you restore that setting to its default value of "Last 2" then purge URLs to have new ones recreated, the links will be different and enough to distinguish between the parent category and the child categories.

Hi

I'd love that :) We don't get much reviews, I guess people expect us to do good work because we are a commercial company!
