Hi

I'm looking to purchase sh404SEF for a large Joomla site but wanted to be sure of something if you can help.

My site has a large amount of articles, around 7000 and sometimes there will be multiple articles using the same page title and creating the same url such as domain.com/reviews/david-bowie-blackstar We get around this by showing the article ID so each one is different.

I've used your component a long time ago when I built a website for another company and I noticed that the article IDs did not appear. When I tried to alter some settings I only managed to make it appear in the page title, not url.

So my questions before buying are:

1. If I don't enable url optimization in the sh404SEF control panel and let my urls be created by Joomla, will I still be able to use other features to manage things like 301s and duplicate content? Or does url optimization always have to be enabled?

2. If it is possible to show article IDs in my url, can you direct me to some instructions so I can see this?

Many thanks

Hi

1 - No, pretty much all features are linked to the ability to build and record in the database the URLs on the site.
2 - Showing IDs in URL is totally possible, per category actually, for Joomla articles:

A word of warning though: if the site already exists and is well indexed, URLs produced by sh404SEF will be different from the Joomla ones (as we do not use menu items to build URLs), so this may lead to heavy redirection needs in your .htaccess.

Hi

Thanks for your reply and the screen grab. When I enable 'Insert article ID in URL' the ID appears in my browser page title, not the url. Would that mean there is a problem with my database?

We had to import the database from a Ruby site so there was some work involved, this may be the cause.

Many thanks.

Hi

It's a pre sale question. The problem I'm referring to was a previous website I worked on. I now want to purchase the component for a new website but before I do I want to be sure that this issue is not a common one.

Many thanks

Hi

OK then, if it's pre-sale, please refer to my first reply.

I understand your first reply but the problem was, when I enabled 'Insert article ID in URL' it did not appear in the url, only in the browser page title.

Hi

Which is a support issue (how to use the software), and not related to whether a feature exist - which is what a pre-sale forum is for.

Can I ask a question in support if I haven't bought the component?

Hi

No you cannot. Support is one of the 2 things you get from a subscription: access to downloading extensions, and support.

OK so you see why I'm posting here?

I know of an issue with your component and until I'm sure that it won't be a problem, I won't be purchasing it.

I just need to know that the problem I have experienced in the past is no longer an issue. If you can't answer that question and I can't contact support, then I can't go ahead and purchase the component.

What's the point of pre-sales if you can't assure me that the bug in question has been fixed?

Hi

I know of an issue with your component
There is no issue in the component. You asked if a feature was present. I replied in details, saying it was.

You can't manage to make it work on your other site? that's support.

That you switch that feature on and don't see ids in your URL does NOT mean there is any bug or any issue with sh404SEF. That's juste usage problem.

What's the point of pre-sales if you can't assure me that the bug in question has been fixed?
There is no bug, that feature works very well (I just tested, in case an unreported yet bug had appeared in our very recent last version).
As you are obviously operating an sh404SEF site without having a subscription, it means you are running outdated software at best. That maybe the reason, but I don't think so as I don't remember any issue with the feature in recent years.

As for testing before getting a subscription, this is what refunds are for.
