Hi there -

Can you please provide the link to read up on sh404SEF and pagination.

I tried to search "pagination" here: https://weeblr.com/documentation/products.sh404sef/latest/index.html and had no joy.

I also searched for topics in this forum and it turned up the thread

https://weeblr.com/forum/question/is-there-an-option-in-sh404sef-to-set-canonical-tags-during-pagination#reply-1054

can sh404sef replace automatically in pagination the query from url like "?limistart=0&limit=10'" by page number to it would look like "/page-2" instead of "/page?limistart=0&limit=10'"?

Yes. Please see the Release and security pages for examples of this. https://weeblr.com/releases-and-security/page-3

This is what I'm also trying to achieve but I cannot find any mention of pagination on the linked to Release and security page. Apologies if this comes across as a stupid question but where precisely within that section can I read up on it please?

Thank you.

Hi

Sorry, there seem to be a misunderstanding: I only provided you with the link to https://weeblr.com/releases-and-security/page-3 to show you a sample of pagination when sh404SEF is enabled.

I tried to search "pagination" here: https://weeblr.com/documentation/products.sh404sef/latest/index.html and had no joy.
There are no settings for pagination. All is automatic when sh404SEF is installed and enabled.

For more support, please only use the helpdesk. This page is only for pre-sale questions.

Thanks for the clarification.

To be clear this thread: https://weeblr.com/forum/question/is-there-an-option-in-sh404sef-to-set-canonical-tags-during-pagination isn't mine but someone else's from a few days ago. By the sound of things they too have sh404SEF installed and enabled and therefore the pagination should be automatic.

Yet like me they have differing queries at the end of a paginated URL (in their case ?limistart=x&limit=xx and in my case ?limit=xx&limitstart=x) and not /page-x as is the expected behaviour.

This seems like a bug.

Personally I think there is a difference between general support (which it's understandable to pay for) and bug fixing (which I don't think a user should pay for, especially if they've already purchased the product previously) but that's my opinion.

As they found out themselves and stated, this is caused by using a 3rd-party extension instead of Joomla content.
This seems like a bug.
No bug has been reported in the area of pagination, in a looong time. Anything you see on this forum is pre-sale. This means that we haven't looked into the issue raised, and nobody knows what's happening, whether sh404SEF is actually involved or not. As in your case for instance ;)

Personally I think there is a difference between general support(which it's understandable to pay for) and bug fixing (which I don't think a user should pay for, especially if they've already purchased the product previously) but that's my opinion.
Well the thing is that you didn't purchase the software before. As provider of GPL-licensed software, we do as the GPL license says, and don't charge for the software. We charge for the access to downloads and new versions and to things such as one-click Joomla updater service and support. This keeps the cost of extensions low for everyone and is beneficial for everyone.
Anyway, as said before, first thing is to find out about your issues, and this is not going to happen here but instead on the helpdesk.

Then our cases may not be the same as it appeared to me on first viewing. I apologise for conflating the two issues and any confusion caused.

In my case when I set sh404sef to Enable URL optimization to "NO" the paginated URL takes the form of:
domain.com/ALIAS?start=xx

only when it is set to "Yes" with sh404SEF 4.7.3.3292 does the URL change to very curious form of:
domain.com/MENUITEMVIEWTYPE?limit=xx&start=xx

so given the menu item view type is "directory" the URL is taking the form of:
domain.com/directory?limit=xx&start=xx

I further tested on a sandbox site using a previous version of sh404SEF mirroring the settings as best I could to see if this behavior was consistent and it wasn't. Using version sh404SEF 4.6.0.2718 the URL took on the form of:
domain.com/ALIAS?limit=xx&start=xx

This is what led me to the conclusion that there is a high probability of a bug with sh404SEF4.7.3.3292. I thought if I could resolve why I wasn't seeing /page-x at the end of the URL then it may in turn resolve any other issues in the process that's why I was initially pursuing that path and asked if any collateral was available. When you informed me that "...there are no settings for pagination. All is automatic when sh404SEF is installed and enabled." I figured it may be a combination of a conflict and a bug.

Personally I think there is a difference between general support(which it's understandable to pay for) and bug fixing (which I don't think a user should pay for, especially if they've already purchased the product previously) but that's my opinion.

This won't endear me to you but my pedantic nature cannot help but point out that I didn't use the word software. I used the word product; charging for access to downloads and support et al. would fall under the umbrella term of the sh404SEF product and thus as a previous purchaser my usage of such a word was apt.

That is a little by the by as the crux of my point is that if there is a suspected bug that there could be a perhaps be a place in-between this forum and the helpdesk where such could be logged. If indeed it is found to be a bug then assistance can be provided. If it cannot be replicated then the person is sh!t out of luck and needs to stop being so tight ;)

Hi again,

This won't endear me to you but my pedantic nature cannot help but point out that I didn't use the word software. I used the word product; charging for access to downloads and support et al. would fall under the umbrella term of the sh404SEF product and thus as a previous purchaser my usage of such a word was apt.
Well let me clarify that then, though you can read it in our terms in a more complicated way: the "sh404SEF product" consists of a one year access to both the download area and the helpdesk.
While your subscription is active, you can download any new version released, and you can ask question using the helpdesk. When your subscription expires, you cannot do that anymore. This is what we can do under the GPL license.

if there is a suspected bug that there could be a perhaps be a place in-between this forum and the helpdesk where such could be logged
That would assume you purchased a piece of software and were entitled to some form of warranty. The GPL strictly forbid it, in exchange of the fact that we provide the full source code we write, and distribute it to you with a set of rights defined in the license itself, such as the right to use it, copy it, modify it and redistribute it in the same way.

And again, in your case we don't even know what kind if content this is, etc it could just maybe be something we don't do. In other words, you need support, and this is provided to people with an active subscription, as per the above.
