I purchase a subscription to sh404sef from Anything Dgital that has since expired. I want to update to the latest version but I'm afraid if I just make a new purchase I will lose the data and configurations in the installed version. How can I update my license to active without any data loss?

I have recently updated to joomla 3.5.1 but sh404sef is on an older version and appears somewhat broken since the update I applied (configuration page shows
Fatal error: Class 'ConfigModelForm' not found in /home/coach4gr/public_html/administrator/components/com_config/model/component.php on line 18). Please confirm this is due to the joomla version update as well. Thanks!

PS - I looked for a way to open a ticket or contact support but have no options available.....probably because I had to create a new account with Weeblr.

Hi

sh404SEF, as any extension we produce, are GPL-licensed. Whether you have a subscription with us or with anyone else, has no bearing on the extension operation, settings, data, etc
See the FAQ for more details, and this one specifically.

In addition, Anything Digital was only our reseller, the sh404SEF extension you downloaded from us was actually already coming from us.

Indeed, support (through tickets) is for users with an active subscription.

I understand that. I want to purchase another subscription but am worried that if I do a new install that I would lose all my data. If I purchase a subscription will it just update my current version and keep all my data? Is there another way to upgrade and keep all my data?

Hi

I am a bit lost now. My reply above explicitly states that there is no connection between a new subscription and the software running on your site.

If I purchase a subscription will it just update my current version and keep all my data?
There is no relation between buying a new subscription and whatever you do on your site, whatever is happening on your site. We don't even know what your site is. The extension on your site doesn't know whether you have a subscription or not, with Weeblr or with Anything Digital or whoever.

Getting a subscription with us is exactly the same as what you did in the past with ANything Digital. When a new version of sh404SEF came out, you downloaded it and installed it on your site, right? same here.

Just like when you update Joomla or any other extension, you should be cautious, have a backup handy or update first on the test site, but other than that, I am at loss why you see a connection between the update on your site and getting a new subscription.

Perhaps I'm not phrasing it correctly.

I have made numerous meta edits, aliases etc within sh404sef for my site. Will updating the subscription keep all this information in tact? The last time I updated the subscription this info was not maintained and I had to recreate everything which I don't have time to do this time around.

Is it more clear what my concern is and what I'm asking?

Hi

OK, I think the confusion may come from the fact you keep using the word "subscription" while you probably mean "extension", or "software". So once again, whether you purchase a subscription here has strictly NO IMPACT on your web site.

However, when you get a new subscription, you will be able to download a new version of sh404SEF. When you install a new version of sh404SEF on your site, there might be issues, just like when you update Joomla or you update any other extension on your site. Such issues are extremely rare, and certainly should not lead you to have to re-enter any data. I don't know what happen last time, but the only way for meta data or aliases to go away is to delete them.

That said:

1 - there is always a small risk in updating your software, but the risk is much higher in not doing so.
2 - you should keep your software (Joomla and all you extensions) up to date at any time. sh404SEF has a new version about every 3-4 months. Updating with every release make it a very minor task. Updating from a 2 or 3 years old version increase the chances of something going bad. Again, this is true for both Joomla, sh404SEF and all the extensions on your site.
3 - Due to this, and in case of any kind of issues, you should not have to enter again your data. You should be able to simply restore a backup and return to your previous state. I would suggest using Akeeba backup prior to any update for instance. It's a very simple way to be on the safe side.

Best regards
