Since we don't check the 404 requests manager everyday, it would be great to get notified of hits. Maybe even have a threshold of the number of hits before a notification email is sent.

Thanks, that's a neat idea. Much work has to be put into it to make it viable though. Most users would be drowned in emails, what with various attacks happening on the site and such, which generates on most sites a lot of 404s. So maybe triggering such email should be based on other factors such as hits, or combination of 404 counts and hits, and also whether this was an internal 404 or an external one, etc
As usual with such emails, we also need to trigger it, either on page load or using cron or web cron, which is harder to setup for many users.
We have added a tracker item on this, and will work on it to see if we can build on the idea.
