Hi

Had a good look around the forums and info online but can't seem to find an answer to my question. On activating sh404sef, does it import the native joomla metadata that is already there for article and menu items or does it override these with a blank template to begin with?

I'm keen to purchase the component but this is a preliminary concern to me as I don't wish to lose this original metadata.

Also, would you be able to identify any potential issues in my .htaccess file prior to purchase if I attached a copy?

Kind regards

Sean

Hi - just seen a similar query in ticket #927. You mention a dev version which enables you to keep all the metadata from native Joomla. I have a website in seven languages for which I have manually input metadata in all the articles and menu items and I don't wish to lose this. Can this be preserved or copied into the sh404sef interface?

Hi

The existing meta data are left untouched by sh404SEF - unless you override them through the Meta data manager of course, or write a plugin to do that automatically.

Existing data are not "imported" however - that would no be possible, as Joomla assigns meta data to menu items and articles, while we only assign them to URLs. Basically, the Meta data manager in sh404SEF is used to override existing metadata.

Hi

Thanks for coming back to me. So to clarify, once I activate sh404sef, my meta data will not be overwritten by the meta data it assigns to URLs and will still be detected by search engines?

If I need to re-assign my meta data from the articles and menu items to the URLs, I will do this no problem. I just wanted to be sure that it would still be there when I installed and activated sh404sef.

As I can't see an option to attach a file, I tried to copy and paste the contents of my .htaccess file below to see if there was anything in there you feltl would conflict with the component? It didn't let me then send the message. Is there an option for me to send you this?

Sorry - don't know why that reply was sent so many times. :(

Hi,

We only saw it once?

Anyway, yes, the short story is that existing metadata in articles are normally displayed by Joomla. sh404SEF only acts as a voluntary override.
