I have two questions:

1) I'm wondering whether it's possible to use sh404sef in a mode where all features are disabled except for shURL. In other words, I'd like to use the shURL feature but not have any other sh404SEF features enabled, so that none of the Joomla! SEF URLs would be optimized/taken over by sh404SEF (for now until I've tested it).

2) Is it possible to configure the sh404SEF optimization/override URL generation features so that it is only active per a specific component? For example, I might elect to use JReviews SEF plugin for that component, but sh404SEF for EasyBlog.

Thanks,
-Eileen

Hi

1 - Nope, that's not possible. shUrls are the result of generating and storing the SEF URL, so you at least must use SEF URLs
2 - Yes, you have multiple options per component to decide how the routing will be done. Note that, as stated at #1, if you disable sh404SEF-generated SEF URLs for a component, you can't have shURLs for it. Likewise, depending on the options selected, URLs won't show in the URL manager, and so will be more difficult to customize, or attach specific meta data to.

Hi there,

I think my question is linked. I want to use the SH404SEF URL renaming/301 features but only for specific existing URLs on the regular Joomla component. Do you know if that is possible?

I certainly don't want SH404SEF changing all the SEF URLs of my site if I activate it as I will got LOTS of 404 from Google I think if I do that (my site has 3000 pages and I know from using SH404SEF back in the day on another site that SH404SEF renamed all URLs). I want to use the default Joomla SEF URLs feature by default and only change few URLs without doing the default Joomla process of creating a menu item and updating all my links that uses this menu item.

Is that possible with SH404SEF? Thanks for your help.

Hi

The answer is the same. Everything in sh404SEF is based on knowing the URLs on the site. Redirects, for instance, are stored as aliases of an URL in the database. SO you can indeed only redirect to an URL that exists in the database.

I wanted to follow up. I'm using a component for which sh404sef brilliantly fixes a routing problem - but it destroys all the other pages, as I am using the page style feature in the menu items, and for some reason, these aren't being honored when sh404sef is enabled. You are saying there's no way to enable the sh404sef only for the component, but not for other content?

Hi

these aren't being honored when sh404sef is enabled
This means that Joomla/extensions are building URLs with the wrong Itemid. Usually the correct Itemid can be found in the duplicates of each URLs. That's usually something that can be sorted out, please open a ticket at our helpdesk.

You are saying there's no way to enable the sh404sef only for the component, but not for other content?
I think I said just the opposite:

Yes, you have multiple options per component to decide how the routing will be done.

When I say 'the component' I am being unclear. I am referring to a component, ie, an installed third party package, not com_content, which I have seen Joomtechs refer to as 'the component.' :o

Hi

Yes, 'component" has the exact same meaning for me and in all my replies above.

So, to be clear, I want to turn it off for everything but a pkg. Otherwise, if I open a ticket, I would need to know whether you would be able to look at the site over the weekend. right now several people are in the back end loading content so I can't touch the site display until they are done.

I definitely need to solve the routing problem, which is somehow a conflict between the third party pkg and Joomla core. sh404sef corrects [i]their[i] problem, but introduces a problem with the way com_content is displayed/routed. They aren't answering tickets, so I am on my own with this problem.

Sorry, support is opened monday-friday.

between the third party pkg
Now you are talking about a package? do you still mean component?

They aren't answering tickets
Whose tickets? Confused?

Anyway,
but introduces a problem with the way com_content is displayed/routed.
As already mentioned, this is a support issue with sh404SEF. That can be looked upon by opening a support ticket at our helpdesk.

not a 'pkg' but a 3rd party (see image).

i'm uncomfortable having support work ongoing while people are in the back end - especially as this is likely to break things. lots of things. so i'm stuck.

Hi

You were the one saying "pkg" ;)

Not much to add then. Again, this area is for pre-sale questions. Please be sure to open a support ticket for any actual support.

OK. booted everyone out of the site, tried to open a ticket, and got 403 Access Denied

edit - was able to submit one by creating a new ticket from the closed tickets page. go figure.

Hi

Then your subscription is probably not active. Do you keep your subscription and software updated?
