Hello,

1. is it necessary to run 4SEF together with 4SEO or can it be used stand alone.

2. I tried out 4SEF during beta phase. What I get out of this was, that meta data as title and description will be retransferred to Joomla files. But what happens to OG images for Facebook and Twitter? I have assigned an image to each of my URLs.

M. Müller

Hi

1 - 4SEF and 4SEO are unrelated.

2 - I tried out 4SEF during beta phase. What I get out of this was, that meta data as title and description will be retransferred to Joomla files. But what happens to OG images for Facebook and Twitter? I have assigned an image to each of my URLs.

That's not correct. 4SEF strictly and only does one single thing: SEF URLs. It has absolutely no other features than:

- creating SEF URLs for Joomla

- allowing manual customization of the SEF URLs it created.

It does not manage metadata, does not generate OGP, etc All "SEO" features are handled within 4SEO. 4SEO covers what you list and of course much more (please see product page and of course the extensive documentation, inlcuding the pages on importing data from sh404SEF)

Hello sorry, I expressed something unclear. During beta phase of 4SEF I tried out the described migration from sh404SEF to 4SEF. There I found out, that meta title and meta description of sh404SEF are transferred to Joomla fields. But sh404SEF also covers other information like OG images. What happens with them during migration?

Hi

This is incorrect. 4SEF does not transfer or use metadata from sh404SEF in any way. It only does one thing: SEF URLs.

You may have tried 4SEO maybe?

Hello, again, Misuinderstanding.

What I mean is:

As you descibe withon documentation,

4SEF can import both sh404SEF configuration and SEF URLs  while

while upgrading from sh404SEF. My exact question is: what happens with the other data from sh404SEF that SEF-Urls, such as meta title and meta description and OG image information also stored by sh404SEF?

Yes. And you said, twice:

> What I get out of this was, that meta data as title and description will be retransferred to Joomla files

> There I found out, that meta title and meta description of sh404SEF are transferred to Joomla fields.

meta data (title, description) are not transferred at all. 4SEF does not import them or do anything with them.

while upgrading from sh404SEF. My exact question is: what happens with the other data from sh404SEF that SEF-Urls, such as meta title and meta description and OG image information also stored by sh404SEF?

Nothing happens. 4SEF does not import or do anything with them.

As I replied above:

> You may have tried 4SEO maybe?

So 4SEO can import custom metadata you may have created manually in sh404SEF. As usual, this is described in details, on this page of 4SEO documentation.

Hello yes, you are right, when I was running the beta phase of 4SEF, 4SEO was already installed, so meta title and meta description came out from 4SEO. By this the question rises, why 4SEO doesn't catch the OG-images of sh404SEF.

I will be honest to you, because of heavy discussions about 4SEO I didn't continue with this. But may be necessary things I need for my site are integrated in 4SEO in the meantime. By this I will wait for your response on OG-images, then you can close this ticket and I open a new one under the chapter 4SEO.

Hi

By this the question rises, why 4SEO doesn't catch the OG-images of sh404SEF.

If a custom image has been set manually for a page, in sh404SEF, it will be imported into sh404SEF.

But it's rare users set OGP images, usually they are auto-detected, both by sh404SEF and 4SEO. 4SEO does it a little bit better of course, as there's been improvement in the process, but 4SEO should get you the same result than sh404SEF for OGP image auto-detection.

You wrote "If a custom image has been set manually for a page, in sh404SEF, it will be imported into sh404SEF." you surely mean "will be imported into 4SEO", do you?
