#10219 – Existing sh404SEF subscription and transition
Hi
1. Although it is July 31, 2023, I am unable to post any tickets with respect to sh404SEF -- that option is not offered
I'm not sure why this happened but your account today
- has an active 4SEF subscription attached to it (there's no sh404SEF anymore, since december last year - sh404SEF is only accessible through the 4SEF subscription)
- is not part of any other Joomla user group than "Registered", which is why you can't access restricted sections of the site
I can see that the same day (May 24 2023) you purchased two subscriptions, and one was refunded, so I suspect that's what destroyed the setup in our subscription extensions. I don't see how that could have happened but it did.
I have manually added you back to "4SEF" Joomla user group, which should let you access again the 4SEF and sh404SEF support sections.
Not that as you mentioned, support for sh404SEF will stop after August 17.
Given that you are discontinuing support for sh404SEF on August 17, 2023, I am wondering, what it is exactly that I am paying for with my subscription?
You are paying to have someone write the 4SEF / 4SEO software so that you have an upgrade path to Joomla 4, 5 (to be released this year, 6, etc).
Don't mistake the subscription for a support subscription (although it does have that). Subscriptions are here so that software can be written and maintained. Without subscriptions, there's no big Joomla extension and probably no Joomla.
Does the new 4SEF extension do everything that sh404SEF did (custom 404 pages, metadata, social media buttons, etc) or do I also have to purchase 4SEO
- 4SEF stricly does one single thing: 4SEF URLs. Anything else (and much more) is done in 4SEO.
- 4SEO strictly does nothing about SEF URLs. It works the same with Joomla SEF, 4SEF, sh404SEF (on J3), JoomSEF, MijoSEF, etc
If 4SEO is also required, is there a way to seamlessly transition from sh404SEF to 4SEO while keeping the wealth of information settings that existed in sh404SEF, including pages' metadata (title and description)?Thank you,Gabor
- 4SEF can import sh404SEF SEF URLs
- 4SEO can import custom metadata, redirects and canonical from sh404SEF.
All that must happen on your Joomla 3 site (or rather a copy of it) before moving to J4, as sh404SEF must be uninstalled before migrating to, as all J3-only extension do.
All this process is fully documented, including videos, on 4SEF and 4SEO respective documentation.

Hi Yannick,
Thank you for the prompt answer.
1. Thank you for fixing the issue with the access to tickets.
My current subscription shows as "sh404SEF - SEO, analytics and security - One year #8O56WJCOFFZM" and not as 4SEO. If thre is a way to upload a screenshot, I will be happy to do so.
2. Is there a recommendation in terms of the transation from sh404SEF -- should I do the import into 4SEF first or into 4SEO first? 3. Is 4SEO capable of importing *all* settings from sh404SEF, including the custom 404 pages?
Thank you again for your work and expertise.
Best wishes,
Gabor
Hi
My current subscription shows as "sh404SEF - SEO, analytics and security - One year #8O56WJCOFFZM" and not as 4SEO.
You do not have a 4SEO subscription, at least under that user name:
Your current subscription is for a 4SEF plan, which still shows as "sh404SEF" because that was still the name of that plan when you purchased it initially and our subscription extension does not update names of existing subscription, it keeps the name at the time of purchase (which is reasonable).
If thre is a way to upload a screenshot, I will be happy to do so.
There's an upload button but not in the support sections with "free for all access". You can post tickets with file attachments in the 4SEF support area, to which you should have access.
But again, I don't see any trace of a 4SEO purchase in our systems.
2. Is there a recommendation in terms of the transation from sh404SEF -- should I do the import into 4SEF first or into 4SEO first? 3. Is 4SEO capable of importing *all* settings from sh404SEF, including the custom 404 pages?
Yes, do 4SEF first, because otherwise 4SEO will see Joomla SEF URLs, and then when you add 4SEF all URLs on the site will change, meaning you'll have to re-analyze the site.
So do 4SEF first, make sure all work as needed, then move on to 4SEO.
Is 4SEO capable of importing *all* settings from sh404SEF, including the custom 404 pages?
No, 4SEO (or 4SEF) will not import everything. They are not the same extensions and only important things are imported.
4SEO does have a custom 404 pages feature, except it's been vastly improved over the sh404SEF on, being much more granular and with more customization options.
So you'll have to re-create that but I think a copy/paste should do much of the work.
