Like the title says.

We selected a default share image in the 4SEO settings, but it is constantly picking the first (large) image on the webpage instead of the default one.

We also set up a sharing image inside Gridbox pagebuilder from Balbooa but this is ignored.

Does it take a couple of hours for it to automatically change? (We cleared cache, cookies)

Because when checking via socialsharepreview.com we see the old image (old image was never set via Gridbox or 4SEO, so this one is automatically picked.).

Thank you.

Hi

We selected a default share image in the 4SEO settings, but it is constantly picking the first (large) image on the webpage instead of the default one.

That's exactly what it's supposed to be doing. The default image is for when there's no image found.

We also set up a sharing image inside Gridbox pagebuilder from Balbooa but this is ignored.

Yes, 4SEO is not aware that such a thing as Balbooa exists, or the particular options and settings it has, and will certainly not use it. I would assume that "Balbooa" would make use of this themselves?

If they do, you should find that in the page source code itself, which is always the best way to go, to be sure what's effectively used.

Because when checking via socialsharepreview.com we see the old image (old image was never set via Gridbox or 4SEO, so this one is automatically picked.).

All changes to the page content made by 4SEO are clearly marked as such with a class="4SEO_[redacted]" attribute, which is always visible in the page source code. You did not provide a link to a page so I can't check that for you at the moment.

Dear Yannick Gaultier,

Thank you for the fast response, clear answers and above all for 4SEO.

Is there a way we can teach 4SEO about Balboaa Gridbox? Or is this a question we should direct towards the makers of the pagebuilder?

Please take a look at the source code of the page here and let me as well provide you with backend details, so you could take a look there as well if you so wish.

Hi

You're welcome!

Is there a way we can teach 4SEO about Balboaa Gridbox? Or is this a question we should direct towards the makers of the pagebuilder?

The first thing to ask is how they use this information.

http://example.eu/example.nl/

This page source code tells us that:

4SEO automatically selected the http://example.eu/example.nl/images/clientimages/examples/drag-drop.gif image for sharing. Sound logical for automatic detection. What should the sharing image be if not this one?

Then something else, presumably Balbooa, also injects some sharing image code with this image selected: http://example.eu/example.nl/images/clientimages/loginsecure/ib_opengraph_share_image.png

So I assume this is the one you manually selected?

If so, it can absolutely work that way, with multiple images listed. Not sure which one each social network will pick up, each (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, etc) may pick a different one.

Else you can:

- decide to always manually select an image in Balbooa, and disable 4SEO OpenGraph feature (Configuration | Social networks)

- let 4SEO automatically detect image and when not happy, make another choice. You can do that from 4SEO Pages list in the admin, or directly from the frontend when navigating the page.

Dear Yannick Gaultier,

Thank you so much for the advice and especially where to find the specific settings to achieve what we want.

You are correct about the image: ib_opengraph_share_image.png

This is indeed the image we wanted to use and that we have set with Gridbox. For the end user, it would be the easiest place to set the sharing image while developing new pages in the page builder, since they are already there. But if they forgot, we want 4SEO to pick up the user error and display the automatically selected and if not present then show the default 4SEO set image. I hope that this is possible, and I can imagine that this functionality would be appreciated for all page builders. Can this be set up?

If not, then we would go with your last suggestion and modify the page via the 4SEO pages list, and we need to teach this then to our clients. But we obviously prefer to go with the above setup since that would be totally awesome.

Once again, thank you very much and have a great evening!

Hi

That's what's currently happening. Except 4SEO will always inject the image anyway, and you'll have several which is fine, unless real social networks pick up on the ones you do not want (don't rely on external tools such as socialsharepreview.com for that, use the facebook debugger or Twitter tester for that.

I hope that this is possible, and I can imagine that this functionality would be appreciated for all page builders. Can this be set up?

That's unlikely to happen, at least for Balbooa, as this requires a lot of work - and future maintenance each time they change something in their code - for something that in the end can be done otherwise. If that sort of things were to happen, I would definitely have to first research integrations with big players, SP PageBuilder and YooTheme, and then the others such as CKPageBuilder or Balbooa. Don't think you can count on that being available any time soon I'm afraid.

That said, if the your PageBuilder has some sort of documented API where I don't have to install it and dig through the code, with all edge cases, to discover how this can be done, why not. 4SEO itself has a documented API which can be used to modify its internal working, maybe the Balbooa folks can have a look as well. It does not have to be me...

Best regards
