Hey there,

I'm wondering what is the status / plan for these useful features that were in sh40SEF and seem to not have made the transition to 4SEO (eg. will they be implemented? or are they scrapped? if so, why?):

1) Structured Data -> Social Profiles

2) Remove Joomla Generator tag

3) Default robots meta tag

4) Remove other canonicals

5) Insert prev/next pagination tags

6) All the Security Features that were under sh404sef Configuration -> Security
Do you plan to do anything similar for Joomla 4 somewhere in 4SEO? Or did you scrap all the security features?

7) Will there be any replacement for the Social Buttons plugin, and the tag {sh404sef_social_buttons}?
Any plans for something similar coming to your new extensions or should I rely on another solution?

Thanks for the clarifications :)

Hi

1 - Social profiles. That exists under Structured data | Settings | Default organization and Default person. It's the basis for identifying the site in all structured data record when there's no entity identified, it's the fallback.

2 - No use.

3 - Default robots. "max-snippet:-1, max-image-preview:large, max-video-preview:-1" is injected if not already present on the page. It's not user configurable, except through a filter.

4 - Remove other canonical. Behaves as before: if 4SEO injects a canonical, other canonicals are removed. Not configurable.

5 - Insert Prev/Next tags: Google stopped using that years ago. Left in sh404SEF because they do not hurt but not in 4SEO

6 - Security: No security features in 4SEO.  Only stuff carried over - and actually expanded - is the "Block" rules, ie the ability to return a custom HTTP code on a set of pages. Meant for SEO usage actually, such as 503-ing or 404-ing a section of a site while work is being done for instance. TBH, the security features in sh404SEF were lousy and rather weak. Cannot compete on that with dedicated extensions. Or Cloudflare.

7 - Social buttons: I love them so Yes, I will have them revived. Most likely as a separate, free of charge plugin. Only the static versions of the buttons will be carried over through, no plan on implementing the actual Facebook or Twitter buttons. With only the static buttons, nice things can be done with modern CSS and we can have more visual options.

I don't see that. It's that meant to go under "Custom code to include". I don't see fields to enter the social media data?

2) Remove Joomla Generator tag

Eh, it's an extra meta tag that would be nice to remove. It would be nice to have that setting back.

Thanks for the clarification on the other things!

Hi,

I don't see fields to enter the social media data?

Oh, actual social network profiles. That does not exist anymore, it was dropped a few years ago. As with other stuff, I did not remove it from sh404SEF as it does not hurt.

Eh, it's an extra meta tag that would be nice to remove. It would be nice to have that setting back.

Why would it be nice to remove? Absolutely useless.

Oh, what do you mean they were dropped? Isn't that the "sameAs" tag? Eg: https://jsonld.com/social-network-profiles/

Do you have a source indicating that was dropped?

Why would it be nice to remove? Absolutely useless.

Cause it's useless. It gives away to who views the website that it's a Joomla site. I know it can be seen through other means, but I would remove it from the source of the website.

Thanks :)

Yeah, sameas is a valid structured data property, it's just no used by Google (dates back 3 years ago, so red notice has been removed).

It gives away to who views the website that it's a Joomla site. I know it can be seen through other means, but I would remove it from the source of the website.

Why would that be a problem? that's not how attackers are attacking, takes more time to check for that than just throwing the attack and see if it works. That's why you see so many /wp-admin 404s in your logs. Not been a problem in a long time, not sure it ever was.
