#8640 – How to set canonical page for shop with same product in different categories

Hi

(shop site with products in several categories).

Isn't phocart not setting these canonical already? As usual, please make sure to always provide full and real links.

I may have misunderstood how canonical works 

The "Automatisch" part in the middle tells you what 4SEO think is the canonical status of that  page. If a check mark, 4SEO thinks this page is canonical. If it has  X, it means 4SEO thinks that page is a duplicate.

By clicking Ja or Nein, you can manually override what 4SEO thinks and add or remove a canonical.

In this case:

You have not changed anything because your manual choices are the same as the automatic ones.

In this case:

- the two top lines: 4SEO thinks the page is canonical but you told it that they are duplicates.

- The 3rd line: you did not change anything: you said page is canonical, and 4SEO also thinks it's canonical

- last line: 4SEO thinks the page is canonical, but you changed it to be a duplicate.

What really hapens if i leave all to "Automatisch"?

With default settings:

- when Automatisch = check mark, nothing will happen

- when Automatisch = X, a rel=canonical link to the canonical page will be added to that page.

As i detected, no site has set canonical

For canonical pages, that's normal. For duplicates, it may depend on caching for instance. The addition of canonical should be pretty quick, especially if you manually reload the page.

I cannot provide support without full and real links to the site. These canonical should be set by PhocaCart. I have to look at one product where this problem occurs so that I can check what Phoca is doing.

So please provide me with two full and real links:

- one link to one product in its main category

- one link to the same product in a secondary category

https://[redacted].ch/shop/cmv-hagedorn/das-kommende-reich-gottes-band-1 this link should have canonical to the first link, but has no canonical at all.

This should be the result of your manual settings in the admin, right? And also whether you enabled "Insert canonical link to self" under Pages | Pages settings in 4SEO.

Unforunatly phocacart does not handle canonical tags. 

That's a pity, all decent carts handle canonicals, even Virtuemart does that. Have you spoken with them? it might be an option, or something they can add. It's a very basic feature for any e-commerce product.

4SEO won't be able to do that automatically without adding support for PhocaCart, which is not something I can work on at this time unfortunately. It's not really complicated but it does need time and an akeeba backup of a site with the problem to test.

Again, I'd first try to talk to PhocaCart and see whether they can provide a solution quickly.

Well it means at this stage ite means the situation is the same here. 4SEO does not have direct support for Phoca, which is required to achieve this (ie to detect duplicates). It will certainly be added at some point but definitely not in the immediate future.

I would suggest trying to get this from Phoca, it's very basic SEO, no decent e-commerce extension can pretend be SEO- friendly and not handle products in multiple categories, there's something wrong here.

So i can set canonical to an other site on frontend?

I'm not 100% sure I understand your question but you can set canonical to any site. And you can manually set canonical for any page, from the 4SEO admin or from the 4SEO frontend.
