 Hi,
we are building a site on top of nginx server

Web-palvelin nginx/1.4.6
Webpalvelimen PHP-rajapinta fpm-fcgi
Joomla!-versio Joomla! 3.4.3 Stable [ Ember ] 2-July-2015 16:00 GMT

I tried to install the extension and activate the
Enable URL optimization with htaccess, but as I have understood, the nginx server does not have htaccess support. After activation, I got only page not found in any case.

Help or documentation how we should proceed?
Best regards, Janne xxxx

Hi

sh404SEF has no needs in terms of server, so you only need to set it up so that Joomla SEF works. See this page of the documentation, which links to Joomla setup page, which in turns has instructions for nginx.

Apache uses .htaccess file or configuration file for URL rewriting, nginx stores URL rewriting rules in its configuration files.

The site is here
http://xxxx

username: xxxx
pass: xxxx

Joomla SEF works ok
http://xxxx

when I enable sf404
http://xxxx

Even the home page is "Bad karma: we can't find that page!"

Any ideas where to start solving?

Hi

Ah I see. The links work fine usually and this has nothing to do with the server.

The problem is that you seem to have hardcoded the 2 links on your main page:

- /keittiot
and
/ikkunat

Those links do not exist, so they generate a 404 as they should.

If I search for "keittiot" in the URL manager, the closest URL seems to be: /etusivu/keittiot and it works very fine.

Have you hardcoded the (wrong) URL in the front page? instead of using non-sef URL?

Of course, the hardcoded urls where the ones that Joomla generated. Now I changed the urls and works ok. Thank you again :)

Hi

Good to hear. Please note that this should not happen. Links should be created as relative non-sef links (ie: "index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=12&Itemid=34"). That way Joomla can pick them up and turn them in to SEF URLs, and also make sure the domain name is fine. This allow moving your site from host to host, or change some SEF URLS without risking to get a 404 in the process, as you just did.
