I accidentally closed #769 main menu items says it's redirecting before getting the answer to what cache you cleared... SORRY!!!!! Can you answer that here?

On to the other question I have.

issue: When I turn on With .htaccess(mod_rewrite) I get 404 errors for every page. What did I do wrong?
site: http://www.xxxx.com/
page: all pages except home

Access: xxxx, pw: xxxx

And a couple questions in my quest to understand... :)
1) What are "feed/atom/", "feed/rss/" and "uncategorised/" (where do they come from and how do I get rid of them?
2) Why do I have and "about" and "about/"

Hi

I will let DImitris follow up on previous tickets, but for your first question, I strongly suggest that you simply read the getting started guide, specifically the section on "Configuring Joomla".
The getting started guide is on this page.

Wow, not helpful.

I have read your documentation and successfully implemented your extension on other sites. So the error I am getting on this site is due to something specific that is not documented in any way I can find. Please consider looking into it.

Also the extra questions I asked... I looked through the documentation and forums and didn't find anything. I try never to ask questions of developers without doing everything in my power to find an answer and fix it myself. If I missed something in the documentation that specifically deals with my issue, I am sorry and would appreciate a more specific direction to it.

Also, as I indicated, I closed the other ticket so I am not sure how Dimitris is going to follow up. Will you let him know? Can he re-open the previous ticket?

Thank you for your help on this.

Hi

1 - Why open another ticket or re-open the old one while we have this one opened? Dimitris will simply look after it

2 - There's nothing specific about the 404s errors you get, and it's documented exactly where I sent you, in the Getting started guide.

If you can access a page with /index.php/ but cannot without it, then your web server is missing proper rules in its .htaccess, which is why I directed you to the Getting started section, where this is explained.

If you want a confirmation of that, simply disable sh404SEF and enable "URL rewriting" in Joomla SEF configuration: you get the exact same behavior, ie 404s on every page (I tried, just to be sure)

So once you've properly setup a .htaccess file on your server and Joomla SEF works fine without /index.php/, sh404SEF will start working in the same way.

3 - As I was looking at some URLs in the URLs manager, I noticed what's certainly going to be a problem: you have manually customized the URLs for 2 different pages to be the same:
For example, the /about is used for both an article view and a category view.
Two different pages should not have the same URL, how are search engines supposed to differentiate them?

I could also identified this for the following pairs of pages: /storage-units and ask-the-expert

Hi

Just talked to Dimitris and he said he simply cleared the Joomla cache on your other site (System -> Clear cache), re ticket 769

Thank you for the further responses.

1) I was trying to figure out how I would receive an answer after doing something stupid... Thanks for the answer on that! :)

2) I did not see anything about setting up the .httaccess file on the page you sent me to and that is what needed done. Your further instructions helped me figure that out and I was able to get it fixed. THANKS!!!!

3) Oh dear... I am trying to get this part figured out and I think I don't understand it well. I'm so sorry.

Basically I don't want the category page of the about to get any views. I don't know why one was created... it is not a menu item. I thought I had redirected the one to the other so that only the one I created would get the "juice" but it seems, according to your response, that I did not do this properly. I will look again at the documentation on this subject, but if you can suggest the correct method for this I would be very appreciative!

Again, I am very appreciative of your help as I try to figure out your amazing and robust extension!

Hi

3 - The key question is here:
I don't know why one was created... it is not a menu item
You have to find where Joomla display this link. Customizing is not an option really at least the way you did it, with almost the same URL except for the trailing slash.
Customizing and redirecting are not the same. Redirecting could be an option. In such case, if the category URL is /some-link, and you want any request for that page to be sent to /my-new-link then you enter "some-link" in the "Aliases" input fieldof the /my-new-link URL in the URL manager.

This is well documented.

However I would totally suggest that you search first where on your site those URL are located. Sometimes this category link is visible in the breadcrumb for instance. I would suggest that you delete it from the URL manager, and wait to see if it comes back. If Joomla needs to display it inside one of your page, it'll come back at some point.
