Hi again,

Sorry to bother you, but you were very helpful with my last ticket #2808 – Help with redirects, and I was wondering if you could answer a quick follow on question?

I have deleted the 404s in the sh404sef database so I can add the redirects to my htaccess file,. and I was wondering if I should also delete the aliases before I do so?

Also, would it be better to remove sh404seh and then reinstall it once I have added the 301 redirects to my htaccess?

Many thanks, Barry.

Hi

That doesn't matter. If you put a redirect in htaccess, say to redirect /old-page to /new-page, the request for /old-page never hits joomla or sh404SEF, it's handled directly by your Apache webserver.
So indeed you can delete the aliases, as they won't be used. But they don't cause any issue either.

Also, would it be better to remove sh404seh and then reinstall it once I have added the 301 redirects to my htaccess?
No, why? .htaccess is part of your web server, unrelated to Joomla or sh404SEF. They don't interact.

Hi again,
Many thanks for your help, I'm getting really confused with redirects, they use to be simple, but seem more complicated by the day.
I have deleted the aliases, and will add my redirects onto htaccess once I have got a better grasp of what should or should not be added.
Thank you for all your help.
Regards, Baz.
