Hi there, for our website www.xxxx.nl, i just changed one of the category blog pages so that it has pagination. now after every 25 posts there is a new page. this concerns the page www.xxxx.nl/fotoshoot/newborn. Now I see that Joomla creates the pages like .../newborn/page-2, .../newborn/page-3 etc.

In SH404SEF I looked up the page-2 in the SEF URL list, and added http://www.xxxx.nl/fotoshoot/newborn in the canonical field. Now when looking at the page source, I can not find any reference to the canonical url. Is this correct? or do I need to set this in joomla, not in SH404SEF?

Thanks and best regards,
Boudewijn

Hi

Looking at your site HTML, it seems you have disabled sh404SEF SEO features. Please enable them back, "SEO management" is under the "SEO" tab of configuration.

Thanks for your answer. I put it back on; could this have destroyed my ranking in Google? we saw a decline both in visits and in google ranking over the past 3 months. One other question, related to the ticket: if I switch on pagination in a blog, do I need to set the canonical in SH404SEF or does Joomla handle this automatically? thanks, Boudewijn Weeblr schreef op 26.09.2016 09:29: >

Hi

That was certainly a bad idea, especially if you had canonicals in place, custom titles, etc

if I switch on pagination in a blog, do I need to set the canonical in SH404SEF or does Joomla handle this automatically?
WHich canonical do you want to set? unless you have a "View all" page, there should not be any canonical on page 2,3, etc
We automatically add rel=prev and rel=next attributes to pagination (unless your template override them, which is rare), and that's the way to go for pagination .

thanks. I didn't have many canonicals in place and was already using Sitemap Pro for my meta description/titles. But I hope this WAS indeed the issue as I tried almost everything to restore the google ranking (worse ranking led to decline in business ~ 50%). so for pagination I will remove the canonical as I saw the rel=prev and rel=next in the source. Template is custom built by me so no override there :) We'll see what the rankings will do in the next few weeks. regards, Boudewijn Weeblr schreef op 26.09.2016 11:18: >
