I'm using 4.7.0.3065 with a Rockettheme Gantry5 based template and K2 and I cannot get the custom 404 error page to load.

I manually created a category and __404__ item using the code from the Error Page Config screen...created a menu item on a hidden menu and associated the error page config to that menu item.

Site is http://www.xxxx.com

Let me know if you need Super User admin access and I will configure an account for you.

Thanks!

Hi

I manually created a category and __404__ item using the code from
Why would you do that?

Error page configuration is done in sh404SEF configuration, under the Error page tab.

If you want to select an itemid (if you have specific modules/templates on your home page and you don't want that to be used to display the error page), then just use any other Itemid.

Rgds

PS: I could not load http://www.xxxx.com. The connection timed out.

I was trying to replicate other sites (non-Gantry5) that had the category/item created. Plus on the rockettheme forum someone had said they did this and it resolved the issue.

What is your IP address...I will make sure we are not blocking you at our firewall?

Thanks again!

Hi

Works fine for me. The only thing I had to change was the "Subtemplate". Looks like you entered "error" there, instead of the default.
But this "error" layout doesn't exist on your template, so that causes a 500 errror (you never mentioned a 500 error?)

If I empty that field:

The error page displays normally.

Note: You have disabled "Display auto-redirect message". You should not. This is very much required when you do an autoredirect, so that users understand what happens.

Also I am having an issue removing the index.php from the URL string...should I open a different ticket?

Hi

No that's different. What you see is a web server 404 (from the Apache web server). Your server is not configured for URL rewriting so you cannot use such links.

Your site can only be reached (except the home page) through URLs like /index.php/something

If you try loading /index.php/bozo, then you'll get access to your Joomla site and the sh404SEF error page.

But currently the request never makes it to Joomla because your web server is blocking it first. You need to enable URL rewriting on your server (and change Joomla setting accordingly in Joomla global configuration)

Hi again

Also I am having an issue removing the index.php from the URL string...should I open a different ticket?
As stated above, this is not an sh404SEF issue. Reading the "getting started guide" in documentation should help.

I had the URL rewriting turned off because when I turn it on all sh404SEF pages produce that server 404 error. I've tried purging the URLs but still I keep getting this error for all sh404SEF pages. I've made the update to the site now so you can see.

I have other sites on this same server that do not have this issue...unless I have to manually edit the .htaccess file???
