Hi,

I have been notified by a site visitor that when he was trying to paste a link into Facebook the descriptive text Facebook showed him had '&#039' shown. I took it that the ' character was being replaced by &#039 code.

I looked at the page and the indeed the og:description tag had these codes in there where the ' should be.

I'm not 100% sure whether this is being caused by K2 or SH404SEF, i.e. whether K2 is presenting the formatted meta description to SH404SEF wrong or whether SH404SEF plugins are generating this og:description from scratch and not formatting this text correctly?

There is no dedicated meta description in SH404SEF defined or a dedicated meta Description in the K2 Item so it is working off the first x characters of the K2 Item text.

Maybe one way round this is to manually amend the meta description in K2 or SH404SEF but I wondered whether there was a programatic solution before we have to go through each page and find all of them that have a ' in the intro text?

Thanks for your help and I hope this makes sense,

Cheers,

Dave

Hi

sh404SEF will not create any description for K2 pages (it actually never create any description automatically), so this is created either by K2 directly or by another extension you may have on the site. This means the description meta is not even processed or inserted in the page by sh404SEF.

The only way sh404SEF would touch the meta is if you created a custom one through the URL manager or the Title and meta manager.
As a test however, may i suggest that you do so and create a custom description that includes an ' (and other special characters) for one of your page, then look up the page source code and see how it's rendered?

Hi,

Thanks for confirming that!

I've added text into the K2 Items Meta Description field and even that has sorted the issue, this also confirms that it isn't SH404SEF it must be K2s behaviour when there is no meta description entered.

I suspect that it does some HTML stripping from the intro text and it doesn't process these ' properly.

I'll await the new Version 3 of K2 and see if it changes and then raise a forum post with them directly. (If version 3 ever gets released that is - lol)

Thanks for your help though!

Cheers,

Dave
