Hello,

In order to transition from Joomla 3/Hikashop with JoomSef to Joomla 4/Hikashop with 4SEO (eventually with 4SEF as well) I need to first ‘upgrade my Joomla 3 from using Joomsef to using sh404sef

In Joomsef I have 620 custom Urls, 31 redirects and 96 aliases that work but all other Urls (a lot fo them) are non SEF (i.e. the regular Joomla / Hikashop ones).

Joomsef is able to make this work while maintaining all other urls as non Joomla SEF Urls because it has a Disable creation of new SEF URLs seeting that I have set to No

However with sh404sef I’m not able to reproduce this behaviour (I tried in as test environment).
The import from the Joomsef to sh404sef went great (with your import plugin), but I’m not able to have sh404sef working with the imported custom Urls, redirects and aliases while maintaining non SEF URLS for all other urls.

I hope there’s some way around this.

In case I helps I share that my focus is on moving to Joomla 4 maintaining the ULR structure and the overall site as much as possible.
Once on Joomla 4 I’ll start working on a major revamp of the website that might include (or not) changing the url SEF structure (and the overall site structure). It makes no sense to work this improvements on the current J3 that neither has a future nor has the modern components like 4SEO.

Best regards

Sorry on two accounts:

1 - wanted to post this on the sh404sef category but by mistake placed it in Pre-sale questions

2- I just found on https://weeblr.com/helpdesk/sh404sef/7695-setup-sh404sef-to-act-only-on-custom-urls that on April 2021  had placed the same question! And there was not way to do it directly.

So no good solution but i do wonder what if... I placed the 620 redirects for customs urls on the .htaccess file and did something similar for the 91 redirects and 26 aliases
You think they would be to many and impact the server ability to reply quick or that it would otherwise be a bad idea?

Many thanks

Hi

non SEF (i.e. the regular Joomla / Hikashop ones).

We do agree that non-sef means something starting with "index.php?option=com_xxxx" and not "the regular Joomla/Hikashop ones, which can be SEF without JoomSEF or sh404SFE?)

Assuming this is the case, what are the  620 custom Urls? also some Hikashop? or are all the Hikashop URLs non-SEF and the 620 custom ones for other extensions?

You may be able to do about the same by using a 4SEF filter, a custom piece of code that can alter 4SEF operation (similar to WordPress filters if you know about that). You could then decide if a URL should be left non-sef on a case by case basis, but that would require to have a pattern of sort so that the code can recognize which URLs should be left non-sef and which ones should be SEF.

91 redirects and 26 aliases

redirects and aliases are actually the same thing. Actually, redirects are a type of alias, the other type being canonical.

It makes no sense to work this improvements on the current J3 that neither has a future nor has the modern components like 4SEO.

4SEF and 4SEO work exactly the same on J3 and J4. Actually, if you plan on using 4SEF/4SEO on your J4 site, you should 100% switch to 4SEO now, on the Joomla 3 site. This is the only way you can import redirects from sh404SEF (and thus Joomsef) for instance.

Once on Joomla 4 I’ll start working on a major revamp of the website that might include (or not) changing the url SEF structure (and the overall site structure).

Honestly, that sounds like a lot of work today for something that will be thrown away in a few months? Also, changing the SEF URLs, if the content and products are about the same, that's going to be tough on your rankings...

Best regards
