I am in transition from J3 to J4. Using 4SEF according to your suggestion everything was done with no problem. Now I have the new site in J4 and still the old tables of sh404sef in the database.

I have used previous shURL for many articles in J3. Now we need to continue generate shURL in J4. Is it safe to install 4SEO to 1) import the old shURLs and 2) to generate accordingly the new ones?

Regards

Hi

If you imported data from sh404SEF into 4SEF, the pre-existing shURLs have been imported and will be executed. However the shURLs feature itself has been dropped entirely.

The closest you can will get is by making a dedicated redirect for in 4SEO for your desired article. This allows a more explicit shortcut rather than a cryptic code as shURLs were.

Hi, it is not clear if 4SEO will automatically make the redirects, or we have to do it manually.

Hi

Hi, it is not clear if 4SEO will automatically make the redirects, or we have to do it manually.

Not sure I understand your question:

get is by making a dedicated redirect for in 4SEO for your desired article

So you can create a redirect exactly as you want in 4SEO.

If you are talking about creating the same thing as a shURL, then no, neither 4SEF nor 4SEO will create shURLs:

However the shURLs feature itself has been dropped entirely.

I was talking about the automation in creating short url, the real problem is this and shURL was facilitating it.

Sorry to have lost this very usefull function.

Hi

Unfortunately it was only useful to very few people, and storing a significant amount of rarely used data for all users, while requiring an additional database query on each page load of each website. It was also created at a time when it'd be useful for Twitter sharing, but that's not longer the case.

Considering the actual goal is to provide a shortcut to a page, 4SEO redirect feature is there just for that and allow creating a "meaningful" redirect.
