No, there is no relationship between the two and one does not replace the other. You'll have more details in our blog post announcing our Joomla 4 plans here, but here is the short story:
- 4SEO is an independent all-in-one SEO extension for Joomla 3 & 4. It has all important SEO features in 2022. It does not deal in any way with SEF URLs. It was released in June last year. This is the extension to do SEO today. Works without a SEF extension, or with any SEF extension (sh404SEF, 4SEF, JoomSEF, ...)
- 4SEF is a SEF-URL only extension for Joomla 3 & 4. It does only one thing: SEF URLs, maintaining the same URLs as sh404SEF produces. This is the extension to maintain URLs on sites that have sh404SEF today.
4SEF has been released as a beta version 3 months ago and is available to all sh404SEF subscribers. There's only one subscription for both sh404SEF and 4SEF.
- sh404SEF will not exist on Joomla 4. It'll be maintained as long as Joomla 3 is, maybe a bit more.
