Until today I was using the REDJ component to manage my redirects. I am VERY interested in 4SEO and would like to migrate precisely to limit the number of components installed on my site. In addition, REDJ does not seem to have a policy regarding an update to Joomla 4, which paralyzes me in updating my sites. First, I need to confirm that I can continue to handle REGEX with value replacement the same way as on REDJ. I'm attaching a screenshot so you can see what I'm talking about. Here are examples of "preg_match" that allow me to isolate certain values from requests and place them in my new URL. Is it possible to use the same method with 4SEO? Or is there a different but existing method? I searched your documentation before creating this topic but did not find anything really specific on this subject. Thank you in advance for your opinion or advices.

Hi,

I'm pretty sure 4SEO  - and sh404SEF for nearly 13 years before today - can do anything REDJ can do (and quite a bit more really).

It can of course use regexp when doing redirect or adding canonicals. You may also not have to, as many cases can be addressed just by using our wildcards caracters similar to:

from: /blog/{*}/{*}

to: /blog/{*}

(This removes one level of category in the blog pages for instance).

I suggest you have a look at the 4SEO redirect rules page of our documentation to get  a better feel of how this work.

Note that to see how you can select pages for the redirect, you should look at the "Rules" documentation page. This tells you how you decide whether a rule runs or not, that is when your redirect is triggered.

As you'll see, you can trigger redirects not just using some URL specification but also:

- based on the component used

- based on the category the page belongs to

- based on a custom fields value: you can have a checkbox or a "Redirect" custom fields in your article edit page, and 4SEO will use that if set

- redirect can be active between dates only.
