Dear support,

Is 4SEF running beside 4SEO only needed for sh404sef migration?

It seems that the only feature 4SEF still takes over from sh404sef is the automated and custom SEF URLs, while 4SEO is your new child prodigy and my opinion is that SEF URLs are a SEO thing too.

I need the SEF URL's (only) to be created for the Joomlapolis.com CommunityBuilder and GroupJive extensions.

If I create a new CB + GJ website, do I need to install and maintain 4SEF for it, or can it also do the SEF URLs with your 4SEO - All in one SEO software?

Few people are of this opinion actually, and that's one of the reasons 4SEO is SEO-only and 4SEF is SEF only. 4SEO does not do anything related to SEF URLs, and never will. The data it can import from sh404SEF is meta data and redirects only.

4SEO works with any SEF solution: regular Joomla SEF, sh404SEF on Joomla 3, 4SEF on Joomla 3 and 4, or any other SEF URL extensions that still exists.

4SEF is dedicated to maintaining backward compatibility to sh404SEF users when moving, or preparing to move to Joomla 4. Only 4SEF can import SEF URLs from sh404SEF (and nothing else).

As said before, 4SEO will not help in any way with SEF URLs. If the site is entirely new, you need to decide if you want Joomla SEF URLs or sh404SEF-style URLs. Note however that:

- as you likely know, 4SEF is currently in beta testing

- it provides direct support for Joomla built-in content. For all other extensions, we rely on the extension's rourte.php file. We plan on adding direct, sh404SEF-compatible support for additional extensions in the coming months.
