Hi there,

I'm currently on Joomla 3 and SH404SEF and plan to upgrade to Joomla 4, 4SEF and 4SEO as soon as 4SEF arrives. Pondering the steps necessary for this upgrade and would like to get your input since I haven't been able to find any information around that here.

What would be your recommended upgrade path? I assume something like this:

1. Stick to J3 and SH404SEF until 4SEF arrives
2. Install (upgrade?) to 4SEF and 4SEO 2.0+
3. Any uninstall/clean-up of SH404SEF?
4. Update to J4

What configurations etc will be inherited by 4SEF and 4SEO and what not (on a very high-level)?

Best regards

Håkan

Hi

You can start running 4SEO right now, it does not care about the SEF solution you use. Upgrading to Joomla will obviously be transparent for it.

When 4SEF is ready, it will take over URLs generation and customization (and only that) from sh404SEF. You can also do that change on Joomla 3. At the same time 4SEF is released, an update to 4SEO will let it import meta data and redirects from sh404SEF. Again, you'll be able to do that on Joomla 3.

Once the transition is done to 4SEF + 4SEO, then you can upgrade to J4.

You certainly can do both updates to 4SEF and 4SEO at the same time you migrate to Joomla 4, I just think it's easier to do all that on familiar territory, on Joomla 3, and then when all is working as expected, move the site to Joomla 4, which will certainly requires work on template or other extensions.
