Hi Guys, recently we started using sh404sef for our joomla projects but I have one thing in mind that I dont really understand.

Our Menus have like 45 Menu items.

But in the SEF URLs, there are like 450 SEF URLs generated, based on system URLs which shows content that the user shouldnt see. E. g. we have build pages as category lists. So there is a menu item linked to a category and all those articles in the list do NOT have "read more" buttons, because the page should only be seen with all articles.

But all those articles do have a system URL and also a SEF URL but what do I do with this URL now and can it be found via google or a user?

And there are also many /feed URLs for nearly every category. They should also not be found via google or a user.

Greetings
Tobias

Hi Tobias,

Thanks for your message. You are on public forum, where we can only reply to pre-sale questions.

We provide support to our subscribers through our helpdesk.
After logging in, please open a ticket describing as clearly as possible the problem you're experiencing.

As a fist general response, please note that:

a/ sh404SEF is not concerned at all with menu items. Menu items are not used to build URLs. Using menu items is the big flaw in Joomla routing and one of the reasons sh404SEF exists
b/ Likewise, whether users see URLs or not is not relevant. Whenever Joomla wants to use a SEF URL, it asks sh404SEF to convert the non-SEF version it (or extensions) has built to a SEF one. It can be visible to users in menu or used elsewhere in content, breadcrumbs, meta data, etc

Thanks and regards

Thank you for the reply. Next time I will use the ticket function.

What I still not understand is, what do I have to do with all those SEF URLs (which are not in the menu)? Do I have to optimize and set Meta Data to all those URLs, which shouldn't be found at all to get a better google ranking?

Or is it allready better for the ranking, to only use sh404sef and to have these SEF URSs?

On all "real pages" I've optimized the url structure and also added titles and meta descriptions.

Thanks and regard

You would only work on pages you want to rank in search engines results.

Or is it allready better for the ranking, to only use sh404sef and to have these SEF URSs?
Having those "other" URLs does not pose any kind of problem.

sh404SEF is mostly a tool. You are the one deciding where you want to concentrate your marketing and SEO efforts depending on your content and your goals.

Best regards
