I am curious about this extension but I am unable to locate any details about how it works with the existing sites template, or if it ignores the mobile views all together and needs to be styled interdependently. Will wbAMP honor the templates responsive design or am I going to have to setup custom styles?

Hi,
Not only do we not use the site template, but wbAMP actually comes with its own template, so as to be able to nuke all template overrides from your template and come back to joomla default output. We also do not render any module, and most plugins are not rendered either.
This is required to achieve AMP compliance.
For instance, your template responsive code cannot be used for AMP pages. Because AMP does not allow external CSS, so it's not allowed to use your template CSS.
You will have to restyle (by using wbAMP input for CSS), but that's relatively simple because you cannot use:
- any JavaScript
-any external CSS
- limited fonts
- no form or any kind of input
