#10888 – 4SEO instead 4SEF

Hi
Neither 4SEO nor 4SEF are replacements for sh404SEF.
The absolute minimum if you are moving away an existing website from sh404SEF is 4SEF. 4SEF creates and manages SEF URLs. It can also import custom URLs you may have in sh404SEF.
Without it, you will immediately lose all the URLs on your site, meaning any ranking in Google you may have.
Then 4SEO is needed to perform actual SEO-related operations, and of course does much more than sh404SEF. The most important things being of course generating Structured data, handling redirects, detecting broken links in your site, generating sitemap, managing metadata manually or with rules and much more. It can also import custom meta data and redirects from sh404SEF.
I need to upgrade 4SEF to 4SEO
There's no "upgrade" from 4SEF to 4SEO. They are unrelated extensions, doing totally separate things.

Hi Yannick, isn't 4SEF included in 4SEO?
Is it possible to import alias URLs from sh404SEF in 4SEF?

Hi
Hi Yannick, isn't 4SEF included in 4SEO?
Not at all. As mentioned above:
> There's no "upgrade" from 4SEF to 4SEO. They are unrelated extensions, doing totally separate things.
Is it possible to import alias URLs from sh404SEF in 4SEF?
Aliases are not URLs, they are redirects. And so it's not possible to "import" them into 4SEF because 4SEF strictly only does one thing: create/manage SEF URLs. It does not have redirects, or any other SEO feature.

So if I understand you correctly I need to install both 4SEF and 4SEO to be able to handle SEF URLs and also import aliases?

Hi
That is correct. Aliases, or any custom metadata you may have.
And 4SEO is also the one that's doing some of the things sh404SEF was doing for you without being visible such as
- adding basic structured data (breadcrumb, search feature, organization). 4SEO will do that, while also adding full per page structured data generation
- OpenGraph and Twitter Cards meta data, to allow sharing over social networks
- adding canonicals to /index.php or other versions of home page for instance
- custom 404 error page with suggestion of "similar pages"
In other words, multiple smaller SEO features that did not require any action from you but were there.
