we try to avoid numeric ID on docman generated URLs.
Docman has not implemented url routing withoun numeric ID.
jextensionstore is recommending us to evaluate 4sef extension for URL routing without numeric ID.
I know you are not so found of docman extension, but anyway. their joomla v5 is still relevant.

1 - I assume you then want to talk about 4SEF.
4SEO does not do anything about SEF URLs, it only has SEO features.
2 - As 4SEF has not dedicated plugin (and will never have) for Docman, it will just use the same URLs as Docman would. So if Docman still uses ids in URLs, you'll still have them with 4SEF (unless you do a little bit of custom coding).
I think it makes more sense to talk to JoomlaTools and ask them to remove, or have options to remove the ids.
