#10302 – Search Engine Ranking when using 4SEF
Hi
I would extremely strongly recommend against doing any of that:
to re-structure our URL's more SEO friendly
URLs "structure", ie the words in the URLs, are not a ranking factor and will not bring any benefit to you in any way. They are just an identifier for a page. That URLs are short and nice is fine but it has no SEO value
(there's a SEO benefit in 4SEF- built URLs, but that's not coming from the URL structure, it's coming from avoiding multiple URLs showing the same content)
Do I have to take care to implement a lot of more 301 redirects for every single page (we do have over 1000's 301 right now), or not
Even if you do that, changing all the URLs on your site will destroy any ranking you may have and, even with perfect redirects, it'll take a lot of times to recover, if you ever do it fully.
Do I have to correct all internal links created by Joomla 3 because of using 4SEF (I don't have used sh404SEF or any other software, just Joomla), becaue of the new URL structure?
Depends on how you created the links. Links in menus and links generated by Joomla or extensions (in categories pages, or modules, etc) will change automatically.
If however you manually created links in your content and used the Joomla URLs (such as /my-link), that will need to be manually updated.
To avoid such updates, you should always create links inside your content by using the non-sef form, ie: index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=12
These non-sef URLs are what Joomla uses internally and Joomla will recognize them inside your content and transform them into the corresponding SEF URLs before displaying the page.
Any information and help would be much appreciate.
Just don't.
Best regards

Hi,
Definitely not. URLs are "just" based on the system you're using. What you use, how you use them should likely be seen more from an operational standpoint (having categories or NOT having ids in URLs makes it easier if you have to do redirects in the future for instance).
But if pages are indexed and ranking well, you do not want to change their URLs. And for new pages, whatever URL they have is fine, as long as its not a 100 characters list of random numbers and letters.
