I developed a municipal website using Joomla 6 with 4SEF.

When I create a new article and either add it to a stream or link it to a menu item, the front-end link initially returns a 404 error. The article is properly created and published, but the URL does not resolve on first access.

The issue is consistently resolved after I purge URLs using 4SEF and clear the cache. Once those steps are performed, the same link works normally without any further changes.

This behavior is repeatable, so I suspect a configuration setting or internal behavior within 4SEF may be responsible. I would like to understand what is causing the initial 404 and what needs to be changed to prevent it from happening.

Specifically:

  • Why does the initial 404 occur when a new article is created and exposed through a stream or menu item?
  • What configuration change or corrective action is required to prevent this condition in the first place?
  • Is this expected behavior under certain configurations, or does it point to a misconfiguration or defect?

Thank you for your help in clarifying the cause and what needs to be adjusted.
