#9719 – Redirect subdomain

Hi Yannick,

I have a customer here who have a example.nc domain.

During several years he used too a subdomain heures.example.nc

This is now ended for already 2 years but Google Search still point to the subdomain for URL of the domain (?).

Example : https://example.nc/realisations/mairie-de-boulouparis-plaquette-institutionnelle is a conincal URL. I dont know why, Google search point to https://heures.example.nc/realisations/mairie-de-boulouparis-plaquette-institutionnelle too.

I want to redirect this URL to the canonical one with sometthing like https.heures.example.nc/{*}
But If I try to use the redirection on 4SEO, I can only begin my redirection with a "/".

Any advice to redirect this ?

Because they have more signals showing that the heures.example.nc is the most important page.

Does the https://heures.example.nc/[redacted] have a canonical pointing at https://example.nc/[redacted]? that would be a first step, but a canonical is just a hint, a signal, they don't have to follow it. Typically, if all backlinks are pointing at https://heures.example.nc/[redacted], just a canonical pointing at https://example.nc/[redacted] won't be enough.

A redirect would be a much stronger signal, and I can see that this is working now so I suspect you solved the issue one way or another.

If I visit https://heures.example.nc/realisations/mairie-de-boulouparis-plaquette-institutionnelle, I am redirected to https://example.nc/realisations/mairie-de-boulouparis-plaquette-institutionnelle, so this is already working.

Just by installing 4SEO would not do that. However if:

- the domain heures.example.nc is already resolving to the same Joomla instance that example.nc runs on

- and you enabled Always redirect to site main address under Pages | Settings

then yes, the Always redirect to site main address would do just that.

Otherwise, it may be your .htaccess as well. Are you sure the redirect would not happen prior to installing 4SEO?

Actually, i have this site management only for some weeks and i did not check before, i'm discovering it... So I have no answer.

But I want to thank you for the time you take to give me efficient answers for an issue that does. not come from your component :)
