Hello,

I recently purchased 4SEO and just getting started with it and wondering if I need to have 4SEF installed next to 4SEO or is 4SEO all that's needed at this point and I can totally remove 4SH404sef and 4SEF?

Thanks

Hi

I can totally remove 4SH404sef and 4SEF?

You cannot uninstall 4SEF under any circumstances. If you remove 4SEF, you will lose all the URLs on your site, which will revert to Joomla standard SFE URLs. Meaning you will lose all your rankings in Google.

You may actually drop 4SEO, and lose custom metadata, sitemap, structure data, opengraph, it will be bad, but not as bad as removing  4SEF!

Is it better to run 4SEO & 4SEF on Joomla 4?  Would you say it runs better on Joomla 4 compared to Joomla 3.

Hi

Is it better to run 4SEO & 4SEF on Joomla 4?  Would you say it runs better on Joomla 4 compared to Joomla 3.

There's no difference from a 4SEO/4SEF standpoint between J3 and J4. All our 4XX extensions have been carefully designed to be as disconnected as possible from the platform they run on. Of course, there are some differences that need to be accounted for, but they are very small, and confined in specific files that are easy to maintain.

The other thing is that although the user interface has changed a lot, there's no real difference, in concepts and features, between Joomla 3 and Joomla 4, when it comes to SEO, content and URLs.

My recommendation, if you have a Joomla 3 site that you want to upgrade to Joomla 4 is to switch to 4SEF+4SEO on Joomla 3.

That way, you're still in a familiar environment, you can just disable them temporarily if something goes wrong, while testing and revert instantly to your trusted Joomla 3 setup.

When all is fine with 4SEF+4SEO, then upgrade the site to Joomla 4. You won't have to worry at all about 4SEF+4SEO during that migration process.

Best regards
