4SEO doesn't seem to recognise all canonical links on my website. How can I get it to do this automatically?

This image shows what I mean, the non-canonical links are showing up as canonical links.

Hi

4SEO doesn't seem to recognise all canonical links on my website.

What do you mean? what's the problem? your screenshot just shows pages on your site.

The extension has now got stuck in a loop which can not be stopped. It freeze my administration site & I had to get my website hosts to disable it. When it was reinstalled it did the same thing. I have had to uninstall it to get my site working again. This was the latest version that was just released.

Hi

You can always  either:

- disable javascript

- use FTP to rename the /plugins/system/forseo folder to something else such as /plugins/system/forseo-disabled

This will work for any Joomla extension.

The extension has now got stuck in a loop which can not be stopped. It freeze my administration site

Can't say much here, I have not heard about anything like that.

- Which browser are you using, on which operating system?

- when did this appear? you worked with it for a bit as evidenced by your first messages and screenshot

Best regards

I uninstalled the extension again and reinstalled it this morning. This has stopped the problem I had with it freezing.

I have sent another screenshot to show you what I mean about canonical URLs. As you can see, I have selected it to show only canonical URLs, but many non-canonical links are showing up. The ´tick´ in the box under the Auto header shows it as a canonical URL. I have checked on other URLs and the ´X´ under the Auto headers shows other non-canonical URLs as non-canonical.

Why does it think some are canonical & others it doesn't? When I first installed this extension, you told me not to manually set URLs as canonical or non-canonical by clicking on the ´Yes & No´ option in the Auto section. Therefore, my question is why it works on some but not others & how do I get it to recognise the non-canonical URLs correctly?

Hi

many non-canonical links are showing up.

What makes you think these are non-canonical?

The ´tick´ in the box under the Auto header shows it as a canonical URL. I

That's because 4SEO - correctly - identified these URLs as canonical. Welcome to Joomla 4, which can produce this kind of URLs.

Therefore, my question is why it works on some but not others & how do I get it to recognise the non-canonical URLs correctly?

It works and correctly recognize these URLs as canonical. Your assumption that they are not canonical is incorrect. Unfortunately, Joomla (4 - version 3 would not do that) will produce these URLs, usually when Joomla cannot find a proper menu item attached to com_content or a specific category.

The only exception to the above is if:

- you started without enough menu items for Joomla to create "proper" URLs and so it created these. 4SEO recorded them.

- you then added more menu items and Joomla now creates "proper" URLs, that is with keywords and menu items alias in URLs

But 4SEO has not had time to update, and in any case, it will still considered the first URLs it found for a given article as canonical.

if that happened to your site, then you need to "Reset analysis" to clear all this data and have 4SEO do a full rescan of the site, now that Joomla creates "proper" URLs.
