The last 3 updates for Joomla 4 seem to have wiped out the download key. Each time I go in to Update to the latest version I'm told a "download key is missing" and it's 4SEO

I go in and put it in, it saves, I do all my updates. Next time I come back when I get notified of an update "download key is missing" and it's 4SEO again.

The last time, and this time, I went back in after and can confirm the download key is there.

Any ideas as to what might be happening?

Hi,

This problem is supposed to have been solved several releases ago. I actually only added a workaround as the root cause is not known. It happened only to a very small number of users (never happened to me on any of multiple tests sites we maintain.

1 - Are you entering your download key in Joomla or in 4SEO?

2 - Several versions ago, I added some logging instructions to record some tech details in case the download key turns empty. Can you look into your Joomla log folder (usually /administrator/logs) and look for a update_key_debug folder which may have one or more log files in it.

Please zip and provide these files here. You can install our free 4LOGS plugin to do just that, view and manage log files (you can install directly from the JED inside your Joomla admin).

Hopefully the log files may shed some additionnal ligth.

Best regards

Hey Yannick,

The folder you mention does not exist on my server, but I grabbed the errors folder from administrator/logs/forseo/errors

Just did the Joomla upgrade today, after I added the key in and did the extension updates.

Hi

Can you reply to this as well?

1 - Are you entering your download key in Joomla or in 4SEO?

With respect to the log files, these are not the ones. These files are errors logged by 4SEO through the course of your website operation, but the logged information regarding that update key are stored exactly in that folder: update_key_debug folder.

If that folder does not exist, then it's also an interesting information. It means that it's not 4SEO removing that update key, but Joomla.

If it was 4SEO removing by mistake the key, we would have written to this update_key_debug folder some detailed information.

Gah! Apologies, I meant to answer that the first time (at work and troubleshooting issues for others LOL).

I've been entering it in Joomla via clicking the notification that a key is missing.

Hi

OK, can you:

- check whether the key is present in 4SEO Configuration | System | Update key

- if not, paste it there

- if yes, cut it from there, wait a second with the field empty (so that 4SEO saves an empty key) and paste it back in (so that it resaves the actualy key)

Again, I don't really know what's happening here, but it looks like Joomla is acting up a bit. There should be some log files if 4SEO was removing the key from the Joomla database table.

Best regards

I'm really good at finding weird things LOL

Done and done. I'll see how it goes for the next update and see if it remains!

thanks :D Keep up the awesome work
