Hello there,

I have used sh404sef for a while now and wanted to give the 4seo a try...

I just purchased it and installed it on a new site... I must say... Mostly these things promise a lot and in the end it doesnt do that much... But this time i must say i am impressed by the functions and the layout as well... Very good job!!

I was wondering the following: When i want to rename  specific URLs, can i do this from within 4seo or do i install sh404sef next to 4seo for this?

Hi

Thanks for the kind words, a lot of work has been into 4SEO, more than 18 months of development actually, so your comments really are appreciated!

When i want to rename  specific URLs, can i do this from within 4seo or do i install sh404sef next to 4seo for this?

4SEO does not do anything about URLs. It's been designed on purpose to work the same regardless of the SEF system in place, be it Joomla SEF, sh404SEF or another SEF extension.

What you see on the Pages page is a list of pages as they were found by crawling your site and searching for links inside the content. These links are not created or modified in any way by 4SEO and you cannot do anything about them inside of 4SEO.

So yes, any URL change has to be done with sh404SEF which is required if you want to retain that possibility. You have to balance the need for sh404SEF and what it brings with your particular site requirements.

You also need to note that sh404SEF will not be ported to Joomla 4. Instead, a new extension called 4SEF is in development and will take over the URL creation and cusotmization from sh404SEF. And only that. So:

- 4SEO does anything related to SEO, much more than sh404SEF was ever capable of

- 4SEF will create SEF URLs and let you customize them (it'll create the same URLs as sh404SEF, to allow transparently moving from sh404SEF to 4SEF) but will not have any SEO-related feature such as custom meta data, redirects,... all this is handled by 4SEO.

Just like 4SEO, 4SEF will run the same on Joomla 3 and 4.

Best regards
