Hi
sh404SEF does your SEF URLs. If you remove it, all the URLs on your site are going to change - and revert back to their Joomla SEF equivalent, meaning:
- there will be a loss in ranking when you change your URLs, at least until such time Google crawl the site and update their index. It's not possible to predict the effect of this, it depends on your site, how many URLs you have, etc
- 4SEO latest version has a new feature which automatically redirects sh404SEF addresses to their Joomla SEF version. This tells Google the address has changed and they will update their index much more quickly. You can still experience a drop in ranking and then recover, but it should be pretty quick.
So it's up to you to decide and make that change. If you have a smallish site, a few dozens or a couple hundred pages, with the redirects in place, it should be ok. On larger site, it might take more times but again, the actual effects is not really possible to predict. In all cases, redirects from old URLs to new URLs are needed.
Also,
- if you have things like custom redirects or custom canonicals, you will need to re-create them in 4SEO.
- if you have customized URLs, you won't be able to do that in 4SEO
- if you have custom meta data in sh404SEF, that won't be carried over to 4SEO. This is planned but not done yet.
