4SEO finished creating my sitemap:

Sitemap is automatically created and updated.
Sitemap has been created.
Sitemap is automatically added to robots.txt.
Sitemap is automatically submitted to search engine(s).

I manually copied and submitted the sitemap to my Google Search Console, but the sitemap makes a file that references "https://[redacted].style/sitemap.en-GB.4seo.1.xml.gz", which in turn gives me a 404 error.

I'm running Akeeba Admintools, which sometimes interfereds with stuff like this, but I set it to allow access to .gz files in the root directory.

Hi

This is a web server 404 error, meaning the web server is not sending the request to your Joomla site.

I'm running Akeeba Admintools, which sometimes interfereds with stuff like this

This is indeed usually the case and i'd suggest talking to the Akeeba about how exactly to let these files go through.

If not, then you should take the case to your hosting company as there might also be a misconfiguration on the server itself.

I looked on the server in my site's root directory, and this file does not exist, so I'm not sure how the server would find it unless the component does some sort of redirect. Where else would this file be found?

Hi

Correct, the file does not exist, it's rendered by Joomla just like any other page on your website.

If you request https://[redacted].style/santa-barbara-coast, there is no file called "santa-barbara-coast" at the root of your webserver.

It is the role of your .htaccess file to instruct your webserver, for any file that does not actually exist, to pass the request to Joomla to render the page.

And in your case, your .htaccess is misconfigured in that it does not send requests for .xml or .xml.gz files to Joomla but instead trigger a 404.

Again, it's more than likely that akeeba admin tools custom .htaccess file is doing this and they can help you there. It might also have to do with the way the server itself is configured to handle .gz files (in which case the hosting company can help) but first and foremost talk to Akeeba admin tools devs.

As long as you have a webserver 404 error displayed, the problem is in the webserver configuration, usually the content of the .htaccess file.
