Hi,
I need to change the aliases for some URLs, so I will subsequently be forced to set up a redirection.

Can this be done in a single rule by placing the aliases one under the other, like this:

/cat-accessori
/cat-accessoires
/cat-accessories
/cat-saponette
/cat-savonnettes
/cat-soap-bars
/cat-balsami
/cat-baumes
/cat-balms

to change it to this:

/categorie accessori
/categories-accessoires
/categories-accessories
/categorie-saponette
/categories-savonnettes
/categories-soap-bars
/categorie-balsami
/categories-baumes
/categories-balms

or must each redirection have its own rule?

Thanks,
Lorenzo

Hi

Well, you could have just one rule for this but there's a problem in your destination, and maybe it's just an error in what you typed:
...change this to:
/categorie accessori
/categories-accessoires
/categories-accessories
/categorie-saponette
/categories-savonnettes
/categories-soap-bars
/categorie-balsami
/categories-baumes
/categories-balms

Here you have sometimes categories and sometimes categorie. Is this correct or a mistake or an error?

If the target is always the same, for instance, you want to redirect /cat-something to /categories-something, then one rule is enough:

from: /cat-{*}

to: /categorie-{*}

or

 from: /cat-{*}

to: /categories-{*}

 If sometimes it's categories and sometimes categorie, then you will need to do it one by one, and I suggest you simply use an alias in that case.

Also of course, I very strongly suggest you do not change URLs that way. If these pages are already indexed, even with a redirection, you will likely lose some rankings.

Best regards,

Yannick Gaultier

Hi,

No, it's not a mistake, it's the word "category" in the plural form in Italian, French and English.

cat-accessori, cat-accessoires, cat-accessories, ... this was used during the site's development and should have been changed, but I forgot to do it.
I noticed that Google sometimes indexes it as is via the Title tag (SEO title) and this causes confusion with the word 'cat' which could refer to the cat animal when in fact I sell products for dogs...

Hi

cat-accessori, cat-accessoires, cat-accessories, ... this was used during the site's development and should have been changed, but I forgot to do it.

So if I understand you well, you will have to use multiple rules, because there's no way to know otherwise which is the target:

1:

/cat-accessoires => /categories-accessoires

/cat-accessoires/{*} => /categories-accessoires/{*}

 2:

/cat-accessories=> /categories-accessories

/cat-accessories/{*} => /categories-accessories/{*}

 3:

/cat-saponette=> /categories-saponette

/cat-saponette/{*} => /categories-saponette/{*}

I noticed that Google sometimes indexes it as is via the Title tag (SEO title) and this causes confusion with the word 'cat' which could refer to the cat animal when in fact I sell products for dogs...

Having the name "categories" instead of "cat" has absolutely no importance for SEO. There is no benefit in changing these URLs, but you will lose a lot.

I must say it again: DO NOT DO THAT. Do not change your URLs. You are going to destroy your rankings in Google

The redirect will NOT save you, you will see large drop in traffic due to this change, for several months.

Best regards,

Yannick Gaultier
