Hi

I have 3 general questions I hope you can help me w/.

1. Could you provide a more specific guideline on when it's necessary to purge the SH404SEF database? Per your documentation, "purge" is needed when *any* changes were made in the "configuration". Could you confirm that is the indeed the correct understanding?

2. However, changes made in URL manager, Title&Tag, Alias managers do not require a purge. Could you confirm?

3. SH404SEF will automatically scan the site so any new or changes to the site (i.e., new items) will automatically be picked up by SH404SEF and SEF urls will be created automatically and presented without my intervention.

Thank you for your help.

regards,
SH

Hi

1 - The more accurate quote from documentation, which I think answers your question is:
please remember that after changing any setting that modify the way URLs are built, you should use the Purge button on the URL Manager page, so that old URLs are removed and new URLs are recreated

2 - The next paragraph says, with emphasis:
The Purge button will only delete automatically generated URLs. Your manually customized URLs, as well as any meta data (page title, description, social networks tags,...) are safely kept untouched.

3 - No, sh404SEF won't scan anything, that'd be terrible in terms of CPU and bandwith. sh404SEF is an add-on to Joomla standard SEF. Whenever Joomla or an extension needs to display or otherwise use a link, it'll call a specific Joomla function (called JRoute::_()), sending in the non-sef URL it wants to use, and asking for the SEF equivalent. Joomla or the extension can then use the SEF URL returned by that function however they need to.

When sh404SEF is installed and enabled, Joomla JRoute::_() function will notice that and simply forward the call to sh404SEF, instead of computing the SEF URL itself.

So basically new items or URL will be created whenever Joomla or an extension wants to display them.
