Hello,

problem: the system creates 2 different urls. Unique ID is activated (for google news).
Example:

www.xxxx.de/201507305783/soundcloud-mashup-germanys-account-geloescht
www.xxxx.de/soundcloud-mashup-germanys-account-geloeschtSoundcloud

The 2nd URL gets a 404 error (now auto 301 redirect is active).
But the URL without the unique ID shouldn't be exist. But it does. Why? Look like a bug. And there are hits in the 404 request log for this URL! I'n afraid of this issue. People calls this wrong URL...
Need support.

Regards,
Sebastian

Hi Sebastian,

Could you please provide us with superadmin credentials to your website. You can create a temporary account, and delete it afterwards, but it must have superuser level.

Hi,

Getting as reference the URLs you mentioned above I saw that in sh404SEF Url manager you had created a custom URL and thus you were getting 2 different URLs for the same page. Eliminating the custom URL will correct this.

I didn't create custom URLs.
Did you look in the 404 error manager. There are more than 10.000 wrong URLs.

I posted just an example herea above.
Most of the URLs in the 404 error manager are without the unique ID.
That looks very strange...

That’s strange I get only 20 entries here:
[monosnap]

Are we talking for the same site?

Ahh that’s your admin template playing tricks here.

I can see those entries. The question is how did those entries created?
Did you share some content and the you made the switch for the unique id?
If so you need to redirect the old URLs to the new ones. Also in your case it would be better to use .htaccess file for this because you have a lot of content.

The question is how did those entries created?
That's the reason why i wrote you. We don't know. Every day there are more than 100 new entries!

Did you share some content
What did you mean exactly with share?

made the switch for the unique id

If so you need to redirect the old URLs to the new ones
We did last year after switch to unique ID

My example URLs above are from today. Only a few minutes ago. The system creates in between minutes variations ot the URL and lists as 404 error in the log file. Look like a bug in Sh404SEF?!

For understanding: Every new article in the system gets this strange url-variations without the unique-id. And someone calls this urls (Google-Bot?). So, that looks bad for seo -> google registered hundrets of 404 errors form my site...

Hi

What makes you think sh404SEF is involved?

What I can see is that you have sh404SEF creating SEF URLs normally, and then something is making requests for bad URLs, and they appear normally in the 404 URL manager.

Let's talk about only one single URL:

www.xxxx.de/soundcloud-mashup-germanys-account-geloeschtSoundcloud

If I do a search on Google myself:
site:www.xxxx.de soundcloud mashup

I get the expected result and the pages showing are the expected ones.

Now to help you find where those URLs are coming from:

1 - If you look at that URL in your Google search console, does it show as a 404? if so, where does Google said it found that page?

2 - You can look up this 404 URL in the security log file found under /logs/sh404sef/sec (one file per month). This will provide some information on the IP address making the request. You can also lookup your web server log files to find where those requests are coming from.

When we know where those requests come from, we can see if sh404SEF is involved in creating them and what to do to solve.

Rgds
