Hi,

I have gone through my site urls and added canonicals manually.

However, while the canonicals can be seen in sh404sef's backend, when I view the pages in the frontend, I can't see the canonical tag.

See example: https://www.xxxx.com.au/outrigger-poles/precision-outrigger-poles.html

I can't comment much considering how outdated your sh404SEF version is, it might be a bug but on a nearly 3 years old extension, too many things may have changed. Please update before anything and make sure you keep all your extensions updated at all times.

As a side note, I see that you have added dozens of self-referencing canonicals, basically for all your product pages. Why would you do that, do you have a specific duplicate content issue you're trying to solve?

Thank you - yes the newer version solved the issue.

I wasn't aware it was so out of date - sorry.

The client has been using an SEO tool that gives warnings if it finds any pages without canonicals, so that is one reason we are doing it throughout the whole shop.

Hi

There really is no need for that unless you have a duplicate content issue. You can use a generic rule to add a canonical to ALL pages at once:

Under the Aliases page, create a new alias with:

- type: canonical

- Alias: /{*}

- Target: /{*}

All the pages on the site will have a self-referencing canonical with that. Problem is, it becomes harder to manage when you actually need a real canonical.
