I am currently attempting to update a joomla 2.5 install to 3.0. it is being hosted on a cloud server service and the timeout routines constantly give me trouble working with the back in of 404sef. Namely I can not download my url records.

As i understand it I am supposed to uninstall the component and then install the latest version. My question is if I do that will it delete my db tables. Or can I uninstall the old version and install the new version with limited trouble?

Thanks

Hi,

You're not supposed to uninstall anything. If the server is too slow for the volume of data you have,it may to switch on "Slow server mode" from sh404SEF Advanced tab of configuration.

Uninstalling should not delete any data table or config (unless you specifically ask it to remove data, also under the Advanced tab of Configuration), but there's stricly no reason to do that, at least if you plan on reusing sh404SEF on the future site).

What I'd advice of course is to take a full backup of the site before you do any manipulation on it. But that's a general advice, and I'm sure you already have valid and tested backups!
