 Hi,

I try to redirect this 4 urls :

http://www.xxxx.fr/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/macrobiopsie.pdf
http://www.xxxx.fr/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/microbiopsie.pdf
http://www.xxxx.fr/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/infos-pratiques.pdf
http://www.xxxx.fr/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/reperage_pre-op.pdf

to the homepage https://www.xxxx.fr

But it don't work if I do the normal process to redirect (insert : wp-content/uploads/2015/11/reperage_pre-op.pdf in the alias of homepage).

Can you help me please ?

Best regards,

Estelle

Hi

1 - You should not do that: if you have removed those files, best SEO practice AND user experience as well is to display a proper 404 error page such as the one sh404SEF provides. Clicking on a link to that PDF and being faced with your home page, especially without an explanation is a bad user experience. From an SEO standpoint, it's bad as well because it prevents search engines to quickly updates their index.

2 - I tested one of those links and it seems to me the response is directly provided by your webserver. ie the request never makes it into Joomla (where sh404SEF could handle it, whether by redirecting or just rendering a proper 404 error page to visitors/search engines).

So you should verify that your webserver (most likely, inside your .htaccess file) is not already handling those files. For instance, a 404 might be triggered each time someone requests /wp-content/xxxx or similar.

Best regards

Hi,

Thanks, I know but I have the page with the PDF :

For example: www.xxxx.fr/images/Microbiopsie.pdf and I would like to redirect http://www.xxxx.fr/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/microbiopsie.pdf to this page.

But, I don't see my pdf (www.xxxx.fr/images/Microbiopsie.pdf) in the list of sef urls. I must to create a new ?
But if the redirect don't works to the homepage, that's the same problem to my pdf. I must to the in the settings of serveur?

Thanks,

Estelle

Hi

It's what I described above. Those are real files. They are files on your webserver, they do not go through Joomla or sh404SEF and there's nothing you can do about them inside of Joomla.

But if the redirect don't works to the homepage, that's the same problem to my pdf. I must to the in the settings of serveur?
It seems to me my response #2 applies here.

Normally, you should be able to redirect from "wp-content/uploads/2015/11/reperage_pre-op.pdf in the alias of homepage" to the homepage by adding "wp-content/uploads/2015/11/reperage_pre-op.pdf in the alias of homepage" as an alias of the home page.

Except if:

- your webserver intercepts that requests and declares a 404 before entering Joomla. Maybe you have some lines in your .htaccess doing that? I think it's your webserver triggering a 404 because the design of
- OR you are not entering the alias correctly maybe? simplest is to use the "Home page meta" button in the tool bar and enter "wp-content/uploads/2015/11/reperage_pre-op.pdf in the alias of homepage" in the alias. You seem to be familiar with the process so I think this is how you do it though.

Best regards
