 Hi

I purchased today so judt reading through all the documentation.

My site is setup in such a way that i only want to manage the public facing components which are indexed by Google et all, all Easy Social / blog /discuss are for registered users and not visible to search engines.

As such i have pages based on SP Page Builder, articles and categories. Is it possible to set sh404sef to not record or store any links generated by the private components (i.e stackideas components) as otherwise being a social network the amount of links being generated will just grow unnescary and will impact the database for no gain at all.

I presume its either nope sorry cant do or its the by component page settings just not sure how to set it to standard behaviour ( i presume using router.php of menu?) just not sure what to select in the first column

Kind Regards

Hi

Is it possible to set sh404sef to not record or store any links generated by the private components (i.e stackideas components)
That's easy but with potentially significant drawbacks.

You can do that easily by setting the desired component to "Use Joomla router" under the "By component" tab of sh404SEF configuration (after that you can delete any URL record found in the URL manager, they won't be used anymore).

The drawbacks are:

- as URL are not used anymore, sh404SEF features associated with URLs won't work anymore: no page title, description, OGP or Twitter cards structured data etc This might be ok as all those pages are private of course
- if a component, even just one, is set to "Use Joomla router", when a request for a page is made to the site and we do not find it in the database, we ask the Joomla router to decode the URL. Due to the way the Joomla router works, it will sometimes decide that a URL is valid while it's actually not. This is one of the Joomla SEO issues sh404SEF fixes but it's not possible to do when Joomla router is engaged. That means some (invalid) URLs may return a 200 code and display something when they should be 404s. It won't affect your site features and operation but it may damage your SEO.

Best regards

Hi

Thanks for that, so you would set as joomla router as opposed to the router.php that stackideas implements for each of their components

Seo will not be harmed at all as none of those pages can be indexed as they are registered only, disallowed in robots.txt and not on any sitemaps

Actually, StackIdeas even has some sh404SEF-specific plugins for some of their components. However, router.php or sh404SEF plugin, using that will cause URL records to be written to the database.
Setting a component to "Use Joomla router" basically bypass sh404SEF entirely.

Seo will not be harmed at all as none of those pages can be indexed as they are registered only, disallowed in robots.txt and not on any sitemaps
The 404 page issue affects ALL your site - by definition, a 404 is not attached to a specific component as it's, well, a 404.

Best regards

Hi

Yep i understand on the 404 issue, but currently all the registered stuff is playing nicely i.e easys social asnd easyblog

So for it to just work on the public facing indexable items and exclude writing stackideas components i would select

Use Joomla Router in coloumn one of the components but which one is best from the 2nd column as shown in the screengrab, i presume its either joomla router or router.php with menu item

Sorry for the silly questions, the rest ive sussed out ok

They don't matter. As soon as you select "Use Joomla router" for a component, sh404SEF is basically disabled for that component and basically sh404SEF options no longer have any effects on that component pages.
