Hi

I'm using sh404sef on a site where all SEF URLs are working fine but I've just created a new category blog menu item which when I try to access, is giving a 404 not found error.

If I look at the sef URLs, the non-sef url looks fine (both item and category IDs are correct)

index.php?option=com_content&Itemid=150&id=10&lang=en&layout=blog&view=category

If I switch off sh404sef, I can access the page fine. I've tried rebuilding the Joomla category and changing to a different category, deleting the URL from sh404sef and then accessing the home page again to re-create but keeps returning a 404 error.

Is there anything you can suggest which might be causing this?

What is the URL you are trying to reach? with sh404SEF enabled, the URL should be different. Has the URL changed when enabling sh404SEF or are you still trying to reach the old one?

The menu item is News & Publications ~ News

The SEF URL generated by sh404sef is

news-publications/news/

With Joomla sef and sh404sef both disabled, the URL is

index.php?option=com_content&view=category&layout=blog&id=10&Itemid=150

With Joomla sef enabled and sh404sef disabled, the URL is

news-publications/news

Hi

Oh, that's an nginx 404 error. sh404SEF or Joomla are not involved in that. The problem is happening because the URL ends with a trailing slash. Your nginx server is not configured to send that back to Joomla for processing and returns a 404 itself directly.

Maybe you can talk to your hosting company about this or do you configure your server yourself?

Fantastic, thank you for such a quick reply. I've removed the trailing slash from the sh404sef URL which means I can now access the page. Will log a call with my hosting company and ask them to have a look at why that's happening though.

Hi

Yes, it's better to fix the original issue. I think they are missing an "index" directive, I've seen it before. We only use nginx ourselves and for many years so that should be easy to fix.

We're leaving on holiday this evening - actually about now - so I will close this ticket now, feel free to open a new one as needed but that can only be after September 18 I'm afraid. If you do so, please mention this ticket number in the new one.
