Hi Yannick,

Any chance of having a integration with EasySocial or any of the StackIdeas components? Well, they're good with providing a complete and quality products but would be nice if sh404SEF can further tame SEF like with EasyBlog where personally I would love to be able to drop /listing from the URL.

With EasySocial, they have this feature called permalink and it's a user defined. If we don't use sh404SEF the changes to permalink kicks in when the page loads but with sh404 enabled, me as an admin has to purge the URL for it to change. Would be awesome if sh404SEF integrates with it and changes the url when permalink changes.

By the way, if you still have not connected with them their lead developer is Mark Lee. He's a cool guy and very helpful with developers who want's to work with them. You can connect with them through: https://crm.xxxx.com/

I believe a lot of StackIdeas customer and yours who uses their product would be happy to see integration with sh404SEF.

Thanks,

Jackson

Hi

Actually, Easyblog and EasyDiscuss have built-in sh404SEF plugins (in their respective /sef_ext folders). They may just need a bit of updating. As you can see, I do use both of them on this site, but I had to modify their plugins to suits my need.
Capturing the change in permalink is totaly something that can really only be done in EasyBlog itself.

My approach will always be to build the url based on title and other data. The right way to go if you want to change the permalink (sh404SEF only does permalinks actually, for all your pages) may be to simply customize directly the sh404SEF url, not the EasyBlog permalink.

I've know Mark for some years now, remember I've beend doing sh404SEF since 2006 ;)

Hello,

I'll give what you suggested a try. I am talking about EasySocial on permalink, since it is mainly a user's URL and users can change permalink anytime they want to. I believe I have asked Mark about it before. I don't remember exactly what I get as reply but all I remember is sh404 does not support dynamic change in URL. I will have to use default SEF if I want permalink to work properly, unfortunately, it is not an option.

Good to know that you know Mark :) My experience with interacting with Joomla developers is mostly kind of frustrating and most of these developers do not want to collaborate with other developers to better their product. It is more convenient for them to simply point a finger to the other developers "it's their problem not with our component." I just find StackIdeas to be great on listening to their clients and open to collaboration.

Thanks!

Well, it's not sh404SEF which does not support dynamic URL change, it's search engines!

sh404SEF does totally support dynamic changes in URL, but it does it the SEO-way: when user modifies a URL, then an alias is automatically created, so that old URL is 301 redirected to new. That's the only correct way.

It is more convenient for them to simply point a finger to the other developers "it's their problem not with our component."
It may be frustrating for users, but most of times, that's reality. When Virtuemart doesn't put an Itemid in its non-sef URL, the only thing we can do is guess, and sometimes we're wrong. When Joomla! uses Itemids to decided on templates and modules to display, we have to fight it but at some point, we can't and things fails. Those are interactions, not problems.

This is something I know extremely well, because for the last 9 years sh404SEF has always been at cross-roads between all extensions on a site. And so I spend my time debugging other extensions. And Joomla!. Since launch last week, I've spent 70% of my time stepping through people sites code (after taking Akeeba backups of them and install them locally). All of that without finding any bug in sh404SEF.

Stackideas and other such extensions make have a much nicer life on this matter because they have little interaction with other extensions. They're mostly concerned with their own code, and it rarely is broken by others extensions. Sometimes templates can give them hardtime, but not much more and nothing that can't be fixed quickly.

Anayway ;)
