 Dear Sirs,

I have a problem here:

https://www.xxxx.com/de

After a while maybe a few hours when I go to the above link it suddenly shows the page according to picture 1.

As you can see there are 5 duplicates for this link. Even if I set it to the right one then after a while it sets it back to an other one and then the page is not displayed anymore.

Can you tell me what is going on here? I don't understand this behaviour.

Thank you very much indeed for your help.

Best regards, Chris

Hi

It's not the same link. One has a trailing slash, the other has not. If you visit https://www.xxxx.com/de, you'll always get the category page. If you visit https://www.xxxx.com/de/, you'll get the German root page.

I suspect you have a category which alias is "de" for your content?

Thanks for your quick answer.

No I don't have a category with de as alias.

Only have Photo-Tours, Foto-Touren, Portfolio.

Any other suggestions?

As you can see the first one is the default 119 is the menu item.

Then it suddenly takes another one.

Have no idea why this is changing even if you set on as default?

Hi

As I explained above, you are looking at two entirely different URLs: /de and /de/

On your screenshot, you are looking at /de/, with a trailing slash, and that is the home page.

The other, entirely different URL, /de surely is:

- either listed in your SF URL manager: do you have it?
- or maybe as a shURL
- or maybe as an alias

The second option is an old bug, that was solved a long time ago, but that shURL may have been left in the database
The third option is unlikely, but you should search for de in the aliases list as well.

Hello

I understand that /de and /de/ are not the same URL.

Both should Point to the Homepage.

As you can see from my 3.jpg - you can see that /de/ has 5 duplicates.
I select the correct one as a main entry.

Then suddenly my selection is gone and another very different URL is selected which then obviously Points to the wrong URL.

How can this be that the Software changes my selection I have made? What do I not understand here?

Thank you very much for your help

Best regards, Chris

Hi

I have no good reason for that change in selection, but I am willing to investigate that. I have looked again at you screenshot ".jpg, and one thing seems more than strange. You have indeed a lot fo duplicates, and all of them have different Itemid.

That's beyond strange, how come so many different Itemids all points the same page?

Another weird thing is that there is a redirect from your home page (https://www.xxxx.com) to https://www.xxxx.com/de/ (or en/). That should not happen. There's something strange going on here.

Could you please provide us with superadmin credentials to your website. You can create a temporary account, and delete it afterward, but it must have superuser level.

Thanks and regards

Hi

One first issue: you have added a de/ alias on the de/ URL: this would cause an infinite loop (though sh404SEF simply does not use such an alias to avoid this loop erro).

Then I found that you have 2 German languages installed: Germany and Switzerland. But you have only created a "Content language" record for the Swiss one. I would suggest removing the Germany language. Not entirely sure, but it can cause some confusion, as it does not have an associated.

Anyway, I then looked at the duplicates, and found them a bit weird, like I said above:

index.php?option=com_content&Itemid=271&lang=de is a link to another article, Foto-touren
index.php?option=com_content&Itemid=415&lang=de is alink to another article, Kontakt
index.php?option=com_content&Itemid=383&lang=de is a link to another article, jungfraujoch
index.php?option=com_content&Itemid=348&lang=de is a link to another article, Mainau

There is also probably a bad link, index.php?option=com_content&Itemid=119&id=75&lang=de&view=article+, with a + at the end.

I then noticed on your screenshot that the selected menu item was "Portfolio" (menu item 255). Is it always the case?

The first thing to do is delete all those duplicates, I think they are probably remains from the site setup or similar. I have done that. So now we have sort of a clean slate.

There is not much I can do more before the problem actually happens. When it happens again, can you please:

- take an akeeba backup of the site - with the problem happening.
- note the exact non-sef URL that has now been selected as the main one (on all your screenshots, it's always the "good" one selected).

This might give us a better clue then.

Dear Sirs,

Just in a short while the whole System is again full of These duplicates.

The same issues I have on many other sites as well.

Could it be that it has something to do with the YOOtheme Pro Templates which I use?

For example I have no clue where for example de/table/foto-touren Comes from. Never used table.

de/such-ergenis has 69 duplicates. Why is the database building all These URLs? On what logic are they built?

Thank you very much for your help as I never know which link is not working.

Best regards, Chris

By the way I have deleted Language for Switzerland de-CH. This was a Problem with Virtue Mart as it only supports de-DE.
I have installed de-DE but Show de-CH as Symbol

Hi

Why is the database building all These URLs? On what logic are they built?
There is no logic, and we do not build them. Your site (Joomla + all extensions) is the one building URLs. sh404SEF is only recording them. It is unable to create any URL. It does not. Never.

Could it be that it has something to do with the YOOtheme Pro Templates which I use?
That's quite possible and I have no idea about what is creating duplciates on your site. Again, those are not created by sh404SEF. Another culprit can be EasyBlog, which has a setting for handling Itemid. I have no experience with it however. They also have an sh404SEF plugin built-in I think, at least they had at some point.

What is insane in your case is that usually duplicates URLs are created when modules/plugins create URLs that complete (index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=12&Itemid=34), but simply use the wrong Itemid. On your site, the duplicates (at least on the /de/ link) are single Itemid URLs ( index.php?option=com_content&Itemid=119&lang=de, index.php?option=com_content&Itemid=255&lang=de, index.php?option=com_content&Itemid=271&lang=de,...), plus a Virtuemart URL on top of that. And all of that resolves to /de/.

Regarding the /de/ URL, I can't say more than what I replied in my last post, until the problem re-appear.

As for de/such-ergenis, you seem to have delete it as I can't find it now. There is no need to delete it, they will always come back when your site recreates them.

Thanks again for your help.

I have checked other sites with just YOOtheme Pro without EasyBlog and Virtuemart - there it Looks much cleaner and most links have 1 duplicate with is always the same item id.

So it can't be YooThemePro.

I have other sites with strange Happenings. I will open the Firewall and send you a link to. They are not yet ready to be published life.

Thanks, Best Chris

Hi

There is nothing to check there. It's normal and common to have duplicates. If you have specific issues on those others sites, please open separate tickets with clear and full description of those issues.

As for the current ticket, we basically have to wait and see to have a backup of when the problem happens, and hope we can figure which extension or configuration on your site is causing all this mess.
