Hi,
I've recently purchased sh404SEF and am feeling fortunate since I'm building a new Joomla site for my company and am excited to get things right from the start.
I've read your documentation fairly extensively, paying particular attention to the canonical links and duplicate url instructions as I want to rank well when crawled.
I assume you don't specifically recommend other extensions, but do you have a couple of names of good sitemap generators that work well with sh404SEF?
Thanks for providing the sh404SEF tool, it is encouraging to see a group like yours working and focusing on these important areas.

Hi Ron

Thanks for your nice comment (and for reading the doc, that's not so common ;) )

Indeed we do not recommend any specific sitemap extension. Basically, it's extremely rare that a sitemap has any use for most sites. Pages on a site should be crawlable, ie all pages on your site should be attainable from menus and from other links from page to page. For instance, if you have a category page, then the first page is linked from a menu, and the category page has links to page 2, page 3, etc
If your site does not allow that, then you need to fix it instead of using a sitemap maker.

The only exception may be when you first create your site and make it public. A sitemap can be good to suggest a crawl to Google, you can then submit a sitemap to Google Search Console and that may speed up discovery. But as this is a one-off operation, I recommend using a desktop software or an online tool to create a sitemap once, and do not install another extension for that.
This is the reason why sh404SEF does not have a sitemap generator. It's easy to do, but does not bring any real benefit. Or rather, in the cases where it's useful, then it becomes very hard to decide which URL to put in the sitemap and which not to include.
